If the roles were reversed and Ali had used that tactic it would have been hailed as brilliant. Jimmy Young boxed Ali`s ears off that night.

This probably doesn't need to go any further, I see it one way, you see it the other. Alls good in the hood. Ditto on the Marquez comment, he lacked top end punching power and raw hand speed. Whenever a fighter relies more on on his boxing skills like technique and timing rather than his athleticism and reaches the very top of the sport doing so, it always seems so much more impressive for me. Like I've said before though, technicians are my kind of fighters, mainly because I'm a bit of a scaredy cat and hit and not get hit is the only game I could ever play in a boxing ring

Not by me it wouldn't, and name me one fight in which he employed such tactics.

I really didn't have any objection in awarding the decision to Muhammad Ali in his bout with Jimmy Young. But I thought that Young really got a raw deal when it came to the scoring of the bout. The bout could have gone either way if it was scored in a competent manner.

That is a projection not a fact and Ali never resorted to such tactics.

Actually Ali was out of the ring most of the Foreman fight, leaning so far back his upper torso and head were out of the ring, the ropes were so loose

Cobra, there wasn't nearly as much love/enthusiasm about about my Ramos thread as I thought there might be and am now sitting here toiling away wondering what to do next.

No, his body was always inside the ring ropes, and therefore it was always a legitimate target.

Yeah sure it's projection...but what isn't projection is Ali's own dirty/foul tactics, like holding Frazier's head down, thumbing Terrell in the eye, etc., which the referees would warn him and warn him about...and I'll bet they never deducted points from him...in the ropes, outside of the ropes, what's the difference? If a tactic works, then it works...but a fighter like Ali in particular, who was so sacrosanct and fawned over by the officials and everyone else who had a vested interest in him winning at all costs, got away with anything and everything, whereas other, mere mortals like Jimmy Young get's points deducted....and again, if Ali had used that same "head through the ropes" tactic, then his worshippers, like you..would be singing his praises to this day..extolling his "ring genius" and "creativity" no end, and you know it. The fu king double standard that existed for Ali.

So Jimmy Young's body also was a legitimate target for Ali...Young didn't step completely out of the ring, did he?

Cobra has hit the nail squarely on the head, in my opinion. If Ali had done this everyone would have had a hearty chuckle at "The Greatest" just being his eccentric, rule bending self.
