Jimmy Young vs Eddie Machen, both prime. Would this fight resemble a chess match? Or would Machen's experience win it for Eddie?
I think they BOTH accumulated a lot of experience over the course of their careers. Machen started off as a much more refined prospect though, winning his first 25 fights and establishing himself as a top 3 contender in relative short time before the major upset to Johansson.. While Machen had a longer run as a contender, Jimmy probably had the best win against George Foreman. He also may have gotten jobbed in a couple decisions against Norton and Ali. Neither man was known for packing a punch. Both were fairly durable and mobile. I see this one going to the cards barring of course a cut or lucky punch. The decision is totally up in the air. I may be inclined to lean towards machen getting the nod, mainly because Jimmy’s elusive style wasn’t especially liked by a lot of judges. Hence some of the robberies. I can’t see this being a crowd pleasing fight. Might look similar to Machen’s draw with Folley where both men were highly criticized for their efforts in a dull affair.
