Two great heavies, although maybe not all time greats. Who wins and how?

Neither was a great fighter by my reckoning but an intruiging match up.Ingo by split dec. It could easily go the other way, but by the time it was over no one would really care who won.

Fair play. I consider an all time great to be a fighter within the top 20 or so of his division. I suppose I have these guys around number 40. Anyway, thank you for your response

We all have our own criteria, and one is as valid as the next.

Whatever and however "great" is defined for the purposes of this thread, I'll just say that Jimmy Young may not have been classed as "great", but that's the fate of the specialist...which he was. Like Nicolino Locche as well. Ingo, though a great right hand hitter, wasn't great for a variety of other reasons. All that aside, I'd have to say that, like so many hypothetical match ups involving Young, he completely outclasses Johansson...being on guard and alert throughout the match, making it look easy. A decision win for Young, a predictably one sided points verdict....similar to the Lyle rematch.

I'd pick Jimmy Young, too defensive and elusive.

I think that Young would win this one because Ingo was a one trick pony.

All I know is I would not be paying to watch it.

The only time Ingo would have made any contact with Young would have been when they touched gloves before the 1st...and in the last round.

Maybe it is a sickness, but I would not miss a second of it.

whats not to love? Watching a master make his opponent miss all night long, and countering brilliantly, occasionally stunning his man, then just backing of just to **** me off! That's just one of the frustrations about being a Young fan, or anyone like him

    Yep.

And what he would do is take away Ingo's right hand. What are you left with? The underestimated punch here is the right hand counter by Young. I think a few of those and Ingo starts falling for feints. And what chance does he realistically have w/ no right hands to land and he's falling for feints?

Young by UD only if he didn't get hit clean; remember that he had 'brain dead' George's number going in if he fought correctly, which he did; however, as a Young nut-hugger, he let George nail him in the 6th-7th? with a shot that was nowhere straight and clean unlike the 'Bingo' which could come straight and right down the pipe!
Jimmy by UD if he could avoid that which he, probably, would have done.

And that's the reason I'd select Jimmy.

Johansson had the power to stop Young (and plenty of others) but i don't think he had the skill. I'd favor Young by decision.
