atsch Young would do jack**** about ****all and lose like usual. And he would have only himself to blame, like usual.
Joe Frazier's last good win was over Jerry Quarry in June, 1974. Had they met then, I think Joe would have out-worked him to win a decision. After that, Young drew with Shavers, and won over Ron Lyle at about the time of Frazier-Ellis II. Joe did not look too sharp against a boxer who was far past it, and who he had defeated much more impressively when both were closer to their primes in 1970. By 1975, Young was much slicker than the '75 Ellis. Even the Manila version of Joe may have been outpointed by Young - the early rounds going to Young as Joe warmed up; the middle rounds going to Frazier; the closing rounds going to the younger, fresher fighter - Young. I believe the Young who successfully avoided being KO'd by the likes of Shavers, Lyle, and Foreman from late '74 onward would not be KO'd by Manila Frazier either. In mental toughness, Frazier would always have the edge, but by the mid-70s I don't believe that would be enough. So, from 1975 onward, I believe that Jimmy Young would have outpointed Joe Frazier.
i am probably the biggest Jimmy Young fan in ESB,...and as I have said all along, this would be a Frazier decision win..Frazier's perpetual motion would have Young using every trick up his sleeve to survive..and survive he would...at the expense of doing much punching. Joe would get frustrated at not being able to ko or deck Jimmy, but he would be the one doing most of the punching and a unamimous decision would be the result for Frazier. Young wouldn't be able to do any kind of damage to Joe..oh he'd land an occasional good shot, but he would be so preoccupied with survival that Frazier would have most of the rounds in the bank. Just a bad stylistic matchup for my man, The Master of Defensive Negativity. yes, the prime Frazier I'm talking here..the post post '75 and onward version of Frazier would be easier for Young to pull his magic on.
Just to clarify - in my previous post, I'm talking about if they had been matched in the mid-70s, when such a match could have been made. Prime Frazier would have been a stylistic nightmare for Young at any time.
Yeah, I have to clarify too..the years '75-'78 would have belonged to Young..pre '75, esp '71 Frazier dominates Young for a decision.
This is a bad matchup for Jimmy Young. Frazier isnt going to stand there and try to box with him. He would come in low and cut the ring off like no one else really could. On top of that Young isnt going to be able to get Joe`s respect at all. Frazier is going to be all over him. Joe Frazier UD15
:deal I would agree! Young may have a decent shot though against 75 Frazier, but anything earlier and Frazier should be able to out work him for a comfortable decision.
pre-1975, especially 1971, i wouldn't rule out a knock out for frazier. however in the mid 70s i'll take joe by ugly decision
Prime for prime Joe crushes him ... a terrible match up for Jimmy ... how he matches up against a post prime Frazier is irrelevant ....
Young was Frazier's sparring partner at least as late as the Ali rematch. After Manilla he'd have a decent chance, though, but still think Frazier outworkds him for a decision.
if joe works him to the ropes, i don't see young doing too much. and it took a rare fighter to keep joe off him long enough to get work done in the centre of the ring
