If Jimmy Young had gotten the nods in the close Norton & Ali fights,
he would have beaten most of the top hvywts of that Golden Age, excluding
Larry Holmes. (Shavers, Lyle, Foreman, Norton & Ali)

Wonder why there never was a Joe Frazier vs Jimmy Young fight?

Joe Frazier would have been a nightmare for Jimmy Young. The exact type of fighter Young didn't want to see. Smokin Joe would not have allowed Jimmy Young the time and the room he needed to fight his fight. Joe cuts the ring, digs to the body, keeps his hands moving and eventually grinds Jimmy Young into a fine powder. Joe would walk right through him.

I would have given Jimmy a good shot at Joe post Manilla. Prior to that Frazier wins comfortably.

He was an early sparring partner in the Frazier camp & that's how his name was known.

Im a Philadelphia guy and trained at Fraziers in the early 90's and from I heard Joe worked over Jimmy good same with Holmes.
    Joe was a beast.
Like Dempsey befor him and Tyson after once u got in the ring with Joe it didn' matter who you were Joe took care of business without the a#shole streak meaning no cheap sh#t.

Was wondering why this complete bell end had been booted. So many reasons but the endless use of '****' seems to have done the trick. Whatever, I'm just glad the board gets a break from him. Our loss is the Pink Oyster's gain. Better lock up your nephews in the Canaries.

The reason is in the Foreman - Marciano thread.

I love Young as a fighter but Joe was kryptonite for a small boxer with mediocre power no matter how clever the mover was.

Frazier by say ten round stoppage.

As the virtual president of the Jimmy Young Fan Club, I have to honestly say that Frazier would have been Jimmy's kryptonite...he would have kept Young on the defensive throughout their fight...using all his wiles...all his considerable cleverness and guile to just survive. JY's excellent chin would have helped him survive a knockdown, and I truly believe that he would have gone the distance with Joe, but there would have been that outside possibility that his low punch output and constantly being on the defensive would have led to either a referee's stoppage or at the very least, a DQ loss.

I totally agree with this .After manilla Young would have won a decision over Joe, he had nothing left at all.A post Foreman Frazier wins a decision. A prime smoke stops Jimmy in similar fashion as he did Ellis .
