Leon as a pro never reached the same level as a fighter as his brother. In fact Michael beats him. As far as Holmes, he was not prime but also Spinks was a bit of a rhythm breaker and although it was Michaels 1st fight as a heavyweight, he was Light heavyweight Champion..I think Spinks fought a smart fight and caught Holmes with some good shots in the last 2 rds. I don't think Michael Spinks was a great heavyweight or a great puncher at that weight but he was a dominant light-heavy. I think he would always give Larry a bit of trouble...It was Michaels 1st fight at that weight and he fights the Champ
Like who? Not sure if you realise but you picked Holmes in this thread by TKO12 about 14 hours earlier. If we keep working on you we might get Young W15
"The Homer" wins either way we slice this pie......... Young might see 12 rds, but not all 15 with Lawrence..... MR.BILL:hat
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QflZUi7kxDE[/ame] Yeah cause Young gets stopped all the time doesn't he.
So are you ignoring the way the stadium vibrated? and the sound the punch made when it landed on Foreman's forehead? I wouldn't be suprised if he got brain damage from that single shot.
? I'm just spreading the FACTS. ABC edited the Foreman-Young footage so the punch didn't make that kind of impact. Why? I don't know. Ever since, Young had been known as a powder puncher.. heh... well, a powder puncher doesn't put down George Foreman, when only 3 other men could do so. Plus, Holyfield, Briggs, Morrison, and Cooney couldn't floor Foreman. Young did it with a single shot. Yeah, what a powder puncher. Pleaaaase. atsch
accurate pin-point punching is a *****, Ali and Young put Foreman down with it and fatigue ...Lyle could punch but not much on his record says he could hit the way he showed vs Foreman...he beat a tired Shavers by KO but I don't consider Lyle in the upper-bracket or a pin-point puncher
And because Young had a murderous punch when he's in the mood. Just look at the footage I posted and tell me otherwise :deal
Not even a "prime if ever he had a prime" Gerry Cooney was able to really come close to decking a bloodied, nearly blind Jimmy Young in that 4 round tko win of his..only Shavers, in Young's 11th pro bout was able to deck Young..and no one else was ever able to accomplish that trick against him...and that would have included Holmes. You can debate on whether Holmes maybe would have had too much firepower and that jab of his and would have taken a decision over Jimmy...but I think Young would have been a nightmare for Larry..like he was for everyone else among the "big boys" of the day.
One of the things that I thought was so cool about Young was that he didn't even look like a heavyweight..just an understated, not real impressive build...no braggadocio macho **** going into a match..no badass staredowns...hell, nobody feared him, yet he made them all look like fools...and good luck with koing him or even hurting him...Young, as it turns out, was BAD NEWS for the big boys back then.
I always thought that if these guys ever met up, Holmes would be too hungry and too aware of Young's slickster style that gave nightmares to Ali, Norton, Foreman. I'd say that Holmes would pound out a hard fought decision. The further this theoretical match slides into the 1980s the less a chance I'd give to Young.
