    Tricky Jimmy against Canny Larry has all the makings of a borefest. Prime Larry’s resolve and winning mentality added to his superior all round skills takes this. Comfortable…but not totally lopsided…points victory for Holmes.

    Good post! Holmes was a winner with a champions mentality.Young wasn't imo, he had the title for the taking against Ali,but couldn't bring himself to go for it.A good technician with something of a sparring partner mentality.

    Young could fight and he was a spoiler but I feel it is a safe if somewhat dull decision victory for a slightly bigger, faster, sharper punching, more active Holmes ... kind of how I imagine some of the early Johnson - Jeanette close bouts or even the first Jones-Hopkins ...

    I don't know about that. I can't see Holmes getting away with simply spamming the same jab over and over against a cautious defensive counter puncher like Young. Witherspoon and Even Shavers managed to time and counter Holmes jab, but Young can't make adjustments and make it difficult for Holmes? I think it's possible Young take away Holmes jab completely and makes him step out his comfort zone.

    Really not sold on the Berbick comparison either, he was a fairly limited but brave straightforward guy and didn't remotely resemble Young..
