Young can make it differcult with his defensive skills but has little in the way of offense. He get off sporatically but Lewis keeps him in his shell all night and switches his attack from the body to the head....Lewis by Wide UD or RSC with Young busted up on the ropes

I think Young will be tricky enough to avoid serious damage, but at the same time, i'm not sure if he can effectively mount an offense to win rounds. I'd expect Lewis/Steward to focus on speed and swift combinations, much like the first Holyfield bout.

He may have done quite well against the early 90's Lewis, who was right hand happy, but i think the Steward-version (say, for McCall II) was too complete a fighter for him to beat, and the 40 pound weight advantage doesn't hurt, either. If you don't have the power to hurt Lewis, then you're in for a long night. Or a very short one.

Young would have enough skill and savvy to frustrate Lewis, but not enough firepower to hurt him. lewis would take a scrappy but clear unanimous decision.

There's every chance that Young could make the final bell and lose a competitive decision, but I've a sneeking feeling Lewis might just stop him late on in the fight.

Young is a 100-1 long shot to win here. All he could do is frustrate Lewis. Ossie Occiaso ( spelling ? ) had some good defensive skills. He frustrated and took a young Lewis the distance. I don't think Young would last the distance as his footspeed wasn't good enough.

Ocasio, after only 11 and 12 fights, also beat a 30 year old Young twice.

Lewis stops the most overated heavy on this forum.

    I agree.
Actually, Jimmy Young sucked. Big time.

Having said that, Lewis never really fought anyone like Young. Young might possibly make Lewis look bad with his stinkeroo style, I dont know. Lewis avoided a fight with Byrd, and Lewis was a bit unpredictable, a guy like Levi Billups gave him problems. Mavrovic gave him a tough fight and I dont know how good Mavrovic was, an pudgy Mercer gave Lewis problems. But then again, those guys came to fight. Jimmy Young is likely to come to survive and nothing more.

Mavrovic was a better fighter than his resume suggests - Lewis had the odd hairy moment in that fight, but was always well ahead throughout - the scores reflect the fight pretty well, though 119-109 is perhaps a little harsh.

I had trouble giving Mavrovic rounds - there was one where he did really well and landed 2 or 3 flush punches backing Lennox up, but then Lewis came back to land 6+ equally flush landing shots, still taking the round. Mavrovic had one hell of a chin and that combined with his akward style enabled him to go the distance, but at no moment in the fight did he look like - or was he - a threat to Lewis. I don't really see how it's a negative on Lewis' career anyway: a near-shutout decision over an iron chinned, akward challenger who had to retire before he could shine.

The Mavrovic fight isn't a negative on Lewis's career. But he did give Lewis a decent fight, and proved awkward. That's all.
And Mavrovic remains a bit of an enigma.
Maybe he could have gone on to shine, (thereby boosting the weight of Lewis's win) or maybe he'd have gone on to get blasted by some ordinary contender (which would diminish Lewis's win a bit). And maybe none of that really matters.
I mentioned it just to show that things are a bit unpredictable, and maybe Young's style might (or might not) give Lewis more or less trouble than Mavrovic, Billups, Mercer or whoever.
Despite the fact that Jimmy Young sucked.

Mmm, well i don't think Young sucked. He wasn't the most flashy or exiting boxer to watch, but he was very skilled and created a string of excellent performances during the short period that he hit his stride.

I'm perhaps being a bit harsh, but only to counter the recent infatuation with Young and exaggeration of his prowess that has befallen this forum.

Admittedly, I haven't seen all his fights and maybe I've missed every one of the "string of excellent performances".
He sucked against Ali, big time. And he wasn't much good versus Foreman, but Foreman really really sucked in that fight.
Young looked okay against Norton, but shitty against Ocasio.

The Young of the Occasio fight would get blasted out quick and fall on those tits he brought into the ring
