Interesting fight and one that I haven't seen on here before. I'm leaning towards Max but Jimmy was a tough dude to beat in his prime.
there you go! Young all the way. I'm not too familier with max, but I just looked at a vid of him he was pretty good
Max, probably by decision. He's bad stylistic matchup for someone like Young and he hits hard enough that he could do some damage in late rounds. Interesting fight, although far from exciting one. Max by clear decision.
It could be a close decision either way. Jimmy was durable and cagey and on his best night might take it, likewise Max. 51-49 Schmeling.
Max wasn't inconsistent. He had a record of 20-5-1 from first Gypsy Daniels fight to his last 1930s fight against Heuser. That's 5 losses in 11 years, including a robbery loss against Sharkey and robbery draw against Uzcudun. He had 4 legit losses at HW - against Daniels (he was young and raw, besides he's 1-1 against him), against Hamas (which he avenged in brutal fashion), against Louis (past prime, he won first fight) and against Baer. He never lost against lesser opponent in his prime and he only lost to Baer at HW without a win before/after.
I want to say Schmeling takes a very close decision in a very awkward and slow paced chess match with a few minor scuffles here and there. Neither can really hurt each other, although had Max had a good right hand he would need to land a whole lot of them to seriously hurt a durable guy like Young. Both at their best were cautious guys with good ring IQ.
