Jimmy Young vs Max Schmeling

Schmeling stopped quite a few durable fighters, although I wouldn't bet on stoppage either.

 

This would undoubtedly be a tremendously boring fight.

 

I'm aware. But Young is such a negative spoiler he would find a way to survive even on the off chance he got badly hurt. We're talking about a guy who not only had great head movement and a tight guard, but he shamelessly bends low at the waist and sticks his head out the ropes. Young had underrated strength in the clinch too.

If Max does hurt Young more than once, he'll go into survival mode and give away rounds, greatly hurting his chances of taking the decision.

 

Yeah, you're probably right. Stribling tried the same against Max late, but he wasn't as skilled clincher.

 

I was thinking more of an ATG war.

 

Jimmy Young counters Max Schmeling's aggressiveness much the same way that he countered George Foreman's and Ron Lyle. It would go the distance but Jimmy can frustrate anyone.

 

Schmeling was much smarter fighter than Foreman or Lyle though.

 

I doubt he was smarter than either

How so?

 

The fight would follow the same old weather beaten path...the script....Young cleverly bamboozles and out boxes Max over whatever distance...15 rounds in this case. Young had beaten...had dealt with...three fighters who probably would have beaten Max...Ali, Norton, and Foreman...plus a fighter who would have been a very dangerous live dog vs the German in Ron Lyle. I think Young could have said that he'd persevered against more danger than Schmeling could have mustered.

This...in a nutshell...

Schmeling beat Louis - a better version than Ali or Foreman of Young fight.
