Except a prime Jimmy Young, of course, with his diverse skillset of running marathons, clinching, and throwing a right hand lead(so ahead of his time). What would a prime Ali do against Jimmy Young? Make faces? Ask him what his name was?

coincidentally posting like this is a really good way to tell ali stans apart from regular people

Wow. Okay. Ali never showed he could successfully lead and go on the offense against this kind of slick defensive fighter.

    Nope.

C'mon people, '67 Ali takes '76 Young to school like a 'lil *****... Young was too slippery and defensive minded, his offense was nothing special... Ali was fast, quick and savvy as hell in his prime, plus his jab and crosses were razor sharp, too...

'67 Ali against '76 Young is a stinker because of the great skills entailed... Ali sticks, moves and scores as Young merely tries to stay in the fight by being slick...

The fight prolly goes all 15 rds with Ali having the better work-rate and connect percentage...

    ALI w15 YOUNG:deal

I don't get the Young hate on here but honestly, Prime Ali wins clearly. He would look foolish by Young but and though Young was quick, he wasn't quick enough to catch Ali. Without question or doubt prime Ali wins this but it would be a very, very boring fight as was when they actually fought. Young could beat a 70's Ali but stands no match for one of the Liston or Williams fights.

And for those questioning Young's ability, watch the Lyle 2 & Foreman fights and STFU.

I'm going to agree with you on the fact that Ali wins. This is basically how I see it unfolding.
Ali dancing, jabbing, throwing many combos. Young is in his usual defensive stance, dodging punches, and occasionally landing counters. Young slips many shots and gives a good account of himself.
Although I see Ali taking a wide unanimous decision. Too fast, too good.

Me too. Ali would not look good against Young. The only fighter I saw look great against Young was Cooney but Young had a very bloody cut and couldn't see the punches.

Speaking of Cooney, he seldom gets his due for stopping Young in 1980. Young was only age 32 and was well trained for the 24 year old Cooney who was green, but powerful.. Cooney landed some good shots to Young's head and body and opened a nasty cut that would make Jason Vorhees proud... Damn, I wish I had that fight on video, but I didn't own a recorder in 1980...

There's a ****ing reason he doesn't get any credit. Young was past his prime. and the only reason he won was because of the cut. Young was landing good shots himself. it was not a blowout and it certainly wasn't one sided besides the last round which was young past his prime anyways.

That seems to be the general cop-out for Jimmy Young and his dedicated worshippers..... Young is either outta shape or past his prime when folks try to excuse his losses....

Young had a very, very short prime so it seems. It appears to have consisted of 1 to 3 fights... Shavers, Ali and Foreman are for sure bets that Young was peaked, but people cannot agree that Young was also still primed for Norton in '77 because his conditioning was in question....

    Young was a classic enigma....:yep:deal:shock:

Young's best performances were over Lyle X2, Norton, Foreman, and Ali.
    That doesn't mean his prime.
Cop out? No. Having a bad cut/being past his prime is certainly not a cop out, dumbass. its clear he wasn't the same guy.
    He's no enigma, either.

My, my... I sense some hostility there, Thomas... Why be that way?

Jimmy Young was good, but not great... And just cuz he had a few good wins in a couple of years will in no way get his ass into the IBHOF...

But dreaming onward that a peak Young could beat a peak Ali is absurd... It would never happen... Ali was great, Young was not... End of story and debate...

Past his prime or not, Young had more skills than Cooney ever had, and the fact that Young was in-shape in '80 at age 32 only shows me he was unfortunate in being sliced, diced and cut by Cooney's gloves, all within 4 friggin' rds of heated boxing.... Still, he lost....

Same goes for his '79 loss on points to Michael Dokes, as well... Actually, Young was doing well against a raw but skilled Dokes who was youthful and fast...

Truth is, Young never had much real success after age 30 in the ring... Yes, he hung in there and proved worthy, but he still lost to the elite or newcomers...

    No IBHOF from Young.... NO!!:-:)deal:|

    MR.BILL:hat

Young's last notable wins were against Ricky Sekorski 2X in 1986...... Them wins occurred after a long string of losses between 1982 to 1985.... Christ...

Young is all wrong for Ali, I thought he made that painfully clear to Ali who was pretty busted up. And a peak Ali would be doing more, thus missing more and getting countered more. Ali was good, but don't think he's ever gonna beat Jimmy Young or Larry Holmes
