And if McCall doesn't catch Young and stop him he may still knock him down , outwork him , earn points on aggression . Young was twice outpointed by Ossie Ocassio and once by Randy Neumann :hey . Jimmy Young's got 19 losses on his resume , 2 of them by stoppage and then he has them draws .. McCall has 11 , and we know how credible his 1 stoppage loss is , this despite arguably having d longer career of the two . McCall actually outpointed Fres Oquendo , Jesse Fergusson & Lance Whitaker . Oqendo & Whitaker were 7 years d juniors of an ancient McCall by d time he fought them . But this of course is only relevant if McCall doesn't catch him along d ropes Maskaev/Akiwande style or any other way .
There may be a few that would give McCall a good shot here, owing to what happened in Jimmy's first fight with Earnie Shavers. However, this took place when Jimmy was still relatively inexperienced. Your thread obviously features a PRIME Jimmy, circa 1975-77,and this version shuts Ollie out over 12 or 15 rounds. You knew I was going to make this call,I think
And in d 2nd fight with Earnie Shavers , and in d 2 Ossie Ocassio fights , and against Randy Neumann .
Many thought that Jimmy deserved the verdict over Earnie in the second fight. If they'd had a third fight around 1976 or '77,Young would have won clearly. As for the Ocasio fights.......Jimmy was never the same after his eliminator with Ken Norton.
What is d difference between a pre Norton and a post Norton Jimmy Young ? Did d fight make him more gun shy ? :yep
After the Norton fight Jimmy seemed to lose all motivation, and apart from the odd spark, just seemed to go through the motions. If the Ocasio fights had been just one year earlier, there's no way that Young would have lost 'em.
Gee! A win over lance goofy whitiker. I'm shure that would have Jimmy shaking in his boxing shoes. I like Oliver, but I see him losing a lopsided decision. Jimmy way to slick for him. Lance whitiker, of all the fights to bring up, why this oddball . Bill, I'm surprised you'd favor Oliver too.
If Young is in top condition, a huge if, I say he wins a fairly easy decision over the mentally weak McCall who rarely went balls to the wall in his career ... Oliver simply is not busy enough and too slow ..
