This seems like a very interesting technical matchup, maybe not fireworks, but one for the boxing purists. Who wins this matchup?
Young. He'll take away that jab and land his counter right hand. Pinky won't be landing much on this guy and will be falling for feints.
I'm not a fan of Young's,but I think he might just squeeze out a decision here. It's difficult to assess many of the heavies from this era, disillusioned ,and demoralized by being cheated by King, many hit the "Colombian Marching Powder" trail, giving performances that were not true reflections of their talent,Thomas was one of these. Pink had a fine jab and a good right hand, but often flattered only to deceive,he sure had a chin on him ,check out the shots Tyson landed on him, before the stoppage. Poor old Young ended up with brain damage from his career, not knowing if he had eaten breakfast or not.A sad cry from the man who beat Lyle twice ,beat Foreman ,and drew with Shavers. I saw him easily outclass British Champ,John L Gardner dropping him along the way. A clever boxer but one whose style turned me off .
Thomas because he can press the fight here & box & jab more willingly than Young, though it’s a difficult fight to score. Both were very good contenders who had it in them to achieve more.
