Ive seen a few threads lately with Young and Marciano mentioned. I have respect for both and think they were good guys. I think Young is underrated at times and I think Marciano is overrated at times. I watched 5 sets of fights from them both yesterday. These two have different styles and are made up different. Young would have easily been champ if he fought in another era. The 1970's was by far the best decade for the Hw's. This a boxer vs brawler match-up. Who wins this match-up in your opinion.

What five fights did you watch of Mariano? You should have watched the Layne, Louis, Moore, Matthews, Walcott I, Ezzard Charles I fights.

Young by wide UD. Young was slick and black. Marciano crude and white.

Lol, some of these posters are something. Marciano would never Ko Jimmy Young, he has an all-time great chin. The comp Young fought is better than the comp Marciano fought and anybody who knows boxing would know that. I watch Marciano vs Jersey Joe, Louis, Moore, Charles and earlier fight before he won the title. This fight is very competitive and the longer it goes the more it favors Young.

    **** no.

I'm a Marciano hater but even I'll admit that he has one amazing speciality: breaking down a technical boxer. You can't run and spoil against a man with his style and strengths, it doesn't work against someone providing that much heavy pressure. How is Young going to break the Rock's pressure? Clinching? Some right hand leads or counters? Walcott and Charles had that and much more, you have to fight with Rocky or you will lose. And that's not Young.

The longer the fight goes on the more it favors the Rock actually, he's one of the few aggressive heavyweights that has proven chops in the late rounds. It doesn't matter what you think of their competition...The rock flat out proved he's a better fighter than Young with his record. He wasn't a hot and cold negative mentality man. He was there to bring it and unless you do the same you can't beat the Rock.

Absolutely. Marciano never fought a real slick fighter. And don't say Walcott, he looks part white.

I think what Classicists are loathe to admit is that Foreman was a flawed fighter, and could be absolute **** after Ali destroyed him. By '77, he was all used up and desperately needed to get away from the sport. In response to this, they raise the worth of Young, who's record redefines "underwhelming".

I think it's pretty obvious that Foreman post-Ali had been affected mentally and stylewise to lose effectiveness. Just that nobody says it.

Marciano by a decision...Young would survive all the way, but his biceps, forearms and everything else Marciano could reach would be hurting him something awful, IMO. This is one of two stylistic matchups that stand out as anomolies for Young...bad stylistic matchups..the other being Joe Frazier...Frazier and Marciano being relentless, nonstop punchers with inexhaustable stamina. Even Marciano wouldn't stop Young and I don't believe Frazier would either for that matter..a gruelling 15 round decision loss for Jimmy..and he would need every last ounce of defensive wizardry to last to the bell, and his rock solid chin would help carry him through.
