Jimmy slickness and ability to hide in the ring gets him past the 1st 10 rds but Marciano's aggressive punching of the arms shoulders, body and odd head shots bring Jimmy to a slow-down from 11 on...Marciano by a UD or a late stop, a tired and worn Young dropping his hands and getting Suzie-Q'd

I heard Joe Frazier on a Philly radio station saying Young was impossible to hit in sparring and he had more power on his shots than he was given credit for. If Ezzard Charles and Jersey Joe could give Marciano problems and almost beat him I think Young can too and he was bigger and faster than those guys and had a better chin.

well, Young wouldn't have much to keep rocky off. after the first 6 or 7 rounds he would be trying to survive. rocky probably stops him late after wearing down young and getting through.
Young would counter Rocky very often though, especially with the left hook.

Young faster than Charles and Walcott? I don't think so. Walcott and Charles were also a level above young in the skill department, in my opinion.

This would be a good fight...I like the rock by unanimous decision

I have a high opinion of Young, but he was prety one dimensional compared to Walcott and Charles.

    Different eras have different strengths.

The 70s might have brought the punchers, but by god the 50s had the better slicksters!

I like Rocky by decision based on volume of punches .. he would be the aggressor all night and while he would not stop Young he would be busy enough to win more rounds ...

Agreed, but this seems to only apply to fighters that are champions that let their guard down and aren't mentally prepared for a hot up and comer or opponent that brings it all together for one night. Frankly, people think when you lose you were just exposed and that you can't get any worse. It's an inconsistency here.

I think Young is too stationary and safety first to beat Marciano.

well, hes certainly not stationary, because he used plenty of movement throughout his career.

Not enough for fighting against Marciano IMO.

He probably used as much as Walcott, Charles, or Moore and they all had success against Marciano

Every has a opinion and I respect that. But, Young was extremely hard to hit and had a good jab and had that Philly toughness to boot. Also, Foreman, Lyle and Shavers all were aggressive and hit just as hard if not harder than Marciano. The power of Marciano would not hurt or make Young discourage and opponents said Young could bang when he wanted too. I see Young as a bigger cross between Jersey Joe and Charles and could make life hell in the ring for Marciano. If the judges were fair I would see Young winning a close UD.

Personally, I think Marciano wears down Young for a late rds KO or TKO, but I wouldn't be shocked to see Young fluster Marciano for a dec. win, either.... Interesting match here...

Since joining, I've noticed this site has a bizarre Valuev fetish and Jimmy Young fan following. I don't get either.
