Due to copyright infringement I can't upload the whole fight to YouTube so I'm going to score the fight and put my scorecard out here.

Round 1- Both men are feeling eachother out. Young is circling to the left and blocking an occasional Lyle jab. Young scored with a pawing jab to the body and a light right lead to the head but nothing more. Lyle is cutting of the ring and is looking much faster then usual. Young dodges a wild overhand right and clinches. Lyle is the aggressor but youn landed more effective punches. Young's round 10-9 1-0 Young

Round-2 Lyle comes out fast in this round and looks to pin young on the ropes. Young clinches and covers up in a defensive shell and blocks a few Lyle hooks. Young lands some sneaky body shots and ties Lyle up. Young lands a quick 3 punch combination and gets nailed with a left hook. Young backs up and acknowledges the shot and comes back with a powerful left hook to the body. For the rest of the round young backs up and tries to get his shotgun jab going. 10-10 even IMO maybe a slight edge to Lyle based on agression

Round 3- Young comes out very aggressively and scores a right lead to the head. Lyle steps back and throws a few jabs. Young throws a body shot followed by a heavy left hook to the head and a right uppercut- all landed cleanly. (only uppercut to the head I saw young ever throw) Lyle nods and laughs at young. Young goes on an throws a 1-2, and ducks a Lyle left hand. Howard cosell comments and says Young is putting on a boxing clinic. Young jabs to the body and backs up. Lyle again pushes young to the ropes and lands sone punches on young's arms and on his belly. Young counters with a left hook and clinches.
10-9 Round for young, landed harder and more clean punches and was the ring general. 2-1-0 Jimmy Young ahead

Round 4- Both men exchange jabs. Lyle catches young with a left jab and follows with a right hand after. Young falls into the ropes (and Howard starts screaming like he always does, overreacting as usual) Young covers up in a shell and Lyle pounds his mid section with hooks and follows up to the head. Young keeps taking punches and Howard calls young defenseless. Lyle tales a breather and stops punching, so young comes back with a flurry of punches. Young backs Lyle up and stop. They both clinch and Lyle elbows Jimmy in the clinch.
10-9 Lyle based on activity and power shots. Young

Round 5- Young is on the defensive and looks to counter Lyle. right now neither man do nothing. they both exchange an occasional jab, and oung tries a right hand. Young stays off the ropes and pushes Lyle back. Howard says Young has underrated strength. Lyle tries a hook to the body and young counters with an overhand right. and staggers Lyle. Young throws a combination. The round ends.
    10-9 Young

    - I'll watch the rest later. I gotta go right now.

The rematch with Lyle was a pretty one sided affair..and a beautiful fight to behold if you're a fan of Young..I enjoyed it thoroughly..what an effortlessly masterful exhibition of boxing by Jimmy Young.

Round 6- Young is again on the defensive and is throwing a shotgun jab with snap. Lyle is cutting off the ring and tryin to get to young with his own jab. Young backs up and dodges a few Lyle jabs, and clinches. Young faints with left and lands an overhand right to Lyle's head. Lyle shakes his head and throws a jab. Lyle pushes young to the ropes and tries a few bodyshots. Young picks them off and counters off the ropes with hooks to the body. Lyle takes a step back and young fires a right hand and connects. 10-9 Young (in the insant replay, the last right Hans knocks lyles mouthguard out of his mouth.) Howard says that Young is showing excellent power tonight, which I always said about Jimmy. In between the rounds you can hear in lyle's corner heavy breathing and perhaps a sense of urgency.

Round 7- Lyle sluggishly comes out to start the round and throws a wild hayemaker, ala Foreman-Lyle first round. Young slickly steps out of the way and counter-jabs to the head. Lyle tries a right hand but gets swatted by a left hook to the temple in the process. Lyle now charges at Jimmy and pins him on the ropes, only to get hammered by s right hand and clinched. Lyle is certainly fighting desperately now. Lyle connects with a double jab and misses with a right hand. Young fires his own jab.
10-9 Young based on that excellent counter punching and effective defense.

Round 8-Lyle comes out with two wild but slow overhand hayemakers, Young backs up and smirks at Lyle. Young trys a 3 punch combination and scores with a left hook. Young double jabs to the body and gets a jab in to the forehead. Lyle is looking a lot slower and tired compared to Young who is still fighting at a good pace. Young lands a right hand to the body and comes inside to land another left hook inside. Lyle eats a left hook and stops in his tracks. 10-9 Young. Lyle incredibly tired and fatigued.

Round 9- Lyle comes off his stool slowly and eats a right left combo by young. Young picks up the pace and lands a hook followed by a right cross. Lyle hasn't a thrown a punch since the round started. Young lands a few jabs to the body and tries a left uppercut, Lyle throws a big overhand right and connects. Howard calls it the best punch that Lyle landed. Lyle now tries to take advantage but gets countered badly and loses balence.
    10-9 Young

Round 10- Lyle is now having trouble keeping his gives up, and shows a fatigue problem (at least in this fight) Young is incredibly sharp and blasts Lyle with a huge overhand right. Lyle goes to the ropes ala Ali-Lyle and gets caught with bodyshots and a left hook to the head. Howard is screaming "LYLE IS HURT AND HELPLESS ON THE ROPES" Which is partially true based on Young blasting him with every shot. Maybe I can upload that part to YouTube so you guys can see young punishing Lyle. Few seconds left, Young nails Lyle with a right hand (it sounds like a freakin' shotgun) and ends the round.
10-8 Round based on Lyle being helpless and hardly landing any punches except a few pawing jabs. The replay shows just how powerful young can be )

Round 11- Young is now dancing around and tossing jabs, while Lyle is staggering around like a zombie. Young lands a nice right hand but doesn't capitilize on it. Lyle is at least trying but he is exhausted. Lyle throws a left and gets countered cleanly by youngs own left jab. Lyle tries a pawing right lead but it gets dodged by Young completely. Young
finishes the round with a flurry but with no real power.
    10-9 Young

Round 12- Young counters Lyle over lyle's jab with a left hook and a right hand. Lyle's face has 2 cuts below his eye and a few bruises and bumps on his face. Young lands an uppercut and dodges lyle's left hook. Young lands 1 left hook to the body and another to the head. Young lands an overhand right to the head followed by another left hook. The fight ends, and the two fighters embrace. Lyle says in an interview that Young is a slipperly, fast, and tricky fighter to land on. He says that if he didn't tire he qould have given young a more competetive fight.

The judges have it unanimously 121-107, Jimmy Young.
I also had it 121-107 myself.

Thanks for this thread I love hearing & seeing about defensive masters such as Young, Benitez, and Wright. IMO, bangers were made to order for Young. If you're going to get in trouble for uploading full or parts of this fight then don't do it though I would love to see it. Off topic but how would you rate Larry Holmes' defense? I heard he was susceptible to rights is that true?

You're right. And you're welcome brother.

I think Larry had a pretty good defense, he was almost always ready to jump or step out of the was very fundementally sound IMO. I've did always get caught with right hands though? infact every single knockdown in his career was from right hands. ( except the fluke against butterbean)

Hmm good point. I asked because I'm a Holmes fan and might get his fights maybe next year. I do remember seeing Holmes decked from Shavers in the second fight but oddly he didn't move around much like he did in the first fight. Still, I love defensive masters and want to get more of Winky's & Benitez' fights. I always get that joy of watching defense from Young. He didn't look too bad defensively against Dokes and possibly could've had that fight scored to him. Unfortunately, some judges didn't respect the "sweet science" enough to give Young the nod in close fights.

Good cover of the fight, thank you, and I too felt Young should have got the decision against Dokes.

Can you upload rounds ten and eleven to youtube? Nothing personal, but I think you overrate Young's dominance in those rounds. I haven't seen the fight in many years, but as I recall, Young utterly and easily outboxed Lyle without ever hurting him.

    Here are the judges scores:

referee: Rudy Ortega 111-119 | judge: Jack Downey 111-117 | judge: Elmer Costa 112-119

    In rounds:
    Ortega: 9-1-2, Young
    Downey: 9-3, Young
    Costa: 8-1-3, Young

The first Lyle-Young fight was one-sided as well. It took place in February, 1975, with Young regarded as nothing more than an easy tune-up for Lyle, who was the world's third rated contender at the time. The result shocked the boxing world, and catapulted Young into the world ratings.

    Here are the judges' scores:

referee: Walter Cho 42-49 | judge: Gilbert Souza 43-48 | judge: Wilbert Minn 44-50

    In rounds:

    Cho: 8-1-1, Young
    Souza: 7-2-1, Young
    Minn: 6-0-4, Young

    Great job. Thanks.

Styles make fights and Young excelled against a slower, older guy like Lyle ... plain and simple ..

i'm not overrating anything tbh. I will try to upload rounds 10-12 but don't be suprised if it gets removed and my account gets shut down because it's my third strike for uploading fights like this.

Young's looked beautiful in this fight IMO. clean combinations, great defense, and very exceptional power for stunning a guy like Lyle. To me, this ranks up with his preformances against Norton and foreman.... it prices how good a fighter he really was.

Young had all of the talent in the world it's ashame his career turned to what it did. Also, I don't want you to get in trouble for trying to upload part of this fight so this summary is fine.
