They fought, but Young was past his best, and Tucker said he was the best defensive fighter he fought. Who wins this matchup?
Tucker has a chance if it isn't 15 rounds. How close did Jimmy come to winning their fight I'm having a hard time finding it?
The only matchup that could possibly be more boring is Ernie Terrel vs John Ruiz. I would rather watch pain dry than either of these matchups. As for prime Young vs Tucker, I think Young would still have a rough time as Tucker could move well for a big man with good fundamentals. There'd be many close rounds that are hard to score, but Young might be able to steal more of them with his occasional sudden bursts of activity throwing a flurry or sharp counter when Tucker has a lapse in focus. On the flip side, Tucker would probably be busier in general throwing more jabs and letting his hands go a little more. Gun to my head, I'd say Young probably steals a very close decision over 12 or it's a draw. Over 15, the slightly more busy and athletic Tucker edges it. In a best of 3, I'd lean towards Tucker on points 2/3 but all 3 matchups would be a chore to sit through and score.
If Tony had developed, I would pick him to win a decision. But Jimmy, with his skill and experience, pulls it out by UD.
Tucker never really had a convincing win once he stepped up in class. His win over Douglas he was behind on points and Douglas basically quit. Gift decision over Norris. Close decision win over McCall. Young atleast..... Schooled Lyle. Comprehensively beat Foreman. And his loss to a good version of Norton could’ve gone either way. I think Young showed a higher level against notable opposition and I'd pick Young by decision.
