A great example of an experienced if terribly out of shape pro beating a green fighter who looked like a physical specimen, but couldn't take the punches when it came down to it. Basically a very poor man's Frank Bruno. Young seemed to notice very early that Bailey didn't like it to the body, and went after him. Looked like he didn't train a day but still got the win.
Just for the fun of it, you should've kept the introductions of Bill Meriman, and the crowd openly showing their disapproval when Meriman mentions Young's weight.
You could hear how the commentators were almost siding with Bailey, just based on his conditioning and age alone. Young did not look in shape, that's for sure. Not that he was very muscular in his peak to begin with but he usually loses the breasts and belly and looks in better shape So people better not tell me ever again that Young can't punch, because this right here shows he not only has a good right but he has a good left hook to boot, and good body punching
You're joking right ? I was at that fight as it was an under card bout and Bailey was such a joke all that could be written about him in the program was "A Good All Around Athlete" . Give Young his just due but he was no puncher ... How many knockdowns did he score against Shavers, Ali, Norton, Oscasio, Lyle and Cooney ? About 99 rounds and not one buckled knee.
Believe it or not norton Ali and Lyle all have good chins and he still stunned norton and Lyle against Ocasio and Cooney he was clearly past his best
a 70% Jimmy Young snuffs out this guy lol...Jimmy's style ruled out an overcommittment to throwing and landing bombs...but all those guys you mentioned Tommy...I bet they all remember getting tagged by Young.
Very nice vid. I love how the music gets louder as Young comes on. And it was really nice to see Jimmy smile just after the fight was stopped, not getting screwed for once. Yea, you KNOW he could punch.
No problem. I love the way he actually goes for the KO here instead of being so defensive like in the past. I wish he had done this against Norton or Ali. he might have actually got the decision
I can't balme him for being defensive against Ali. He was "the people's hero" and he may have gotten a bad rep if he beat up Ali. As far as Norton, Jimmy won that fight in my eyes and made him look bad.. I like how after Norton threw a wild hook Jimmy waved like he was saying, "You're going to have to do better than that Norton". Norton did well to make it his mission to go to the body especially later in the fight but I don't think he did enough to win. I don't know why but Norton-Young reminds me of Barkley-Nunn of course the defensive fighter in that matchup(Nunn) moved more than Young and he made Barkley look bad at times. Barkley was the aggressor and like Norton, he made it a goal to try to go to the body. I can't lie I'm a Nunn fan aswell as a Young fan and I felt the guys I was rooting for while I watched the fights won.
