I hope the censor police won't move this as there may be some here who would like to know what its like to have a drink here. Its a great place to hang out and talk fights and if you are lucky enough to be in there when the owner Jimmy Glenn is there, you're in for a treat. He is a lovely guy, quietly spoken and full of knowledge and background to fights,an unassuming walking encyclopaedia of boxing .I got the chance to spend a few nights chewing the fat with him talking about Howard Davis whom he brought to the UK to fight Jim Watt,Jerry Quarry and many more. I managed to identify all the boxers on the walls except for one who was in southpaw stance.Jimmy laughed and said he wasn't a southpaw that's Billy Graham! So I plead the fifth on that one,we spoke about the Gavilan fight and Jimmy thought Graham should have got the decision,I was coming out of the bar at 4 am every morning ,luckily my hotel was directly opposite! $4 for most draft beers, that's cheap for the Times Sq area I would post some photos but this site is not allowing me to ,and I don't know how to circumvent it.
Great recommendation McVey. Thanks for the tip. I don't get to the Big Apple much, but maybe some day I'll check it out.
Mc, glad you got a chance to visit a great "fight" bar. Spent many a night with Johnny Bos talking boxing with Jimmy. If you are still in the city ask Jimmy about Johnny. Did you visit the back where DeNiro as LaMotta did a standup in the Raging Bull movie.
I got back to the UK this morning.I was talking to some fellow Brits in Jimmy's, we had all been to Barclays Center to see Frampton win. It's like a piece of pugilistic history! Jimmy is a top guy!
Jimmy has programs going back to Louis etc, one night I was there and a big black guy hearing my accent said," do you remember Terry Marsh?" and of course I said yeah ,and he said "he took the title from my stepson Joe Manley." I went there every day.
Times Square is pretty touristy but I wanted a base that was pretty central. From West 44th St,I could walk to the Met, up through Central Park, and downtown ,I was handy for The Empire State,MSG,and the Village Vanguard Jazz club in the Village where I saw Barry Harris. Did the Staten Ferry ride and hit a few craft pubs.Very impressed with NY and its people they could not have been nicer or more helpful. My phone bill for calls to my partner was a bit heavy $338 but she seemed to appreciate them. Lot of Irish bars around 44th ,45th and 42nd street, O Donoghues,O Lunney's, the Celtic Bar,O Brien's etc all pretty good with a good selection of ales. Also there's The Proper Pint ,Heartland Brewery,Beer Authority.

It looks really cool I might go to the US Open in late August A bunch of us, who can get there, should meet up.
great bar go there before every fight great memorabilia and awesome pricing 2 shots and two beers for 16 bucks in time square let alone the city cant beat it
There is an old saying, that no matter where you are in the world you are never further that 10 yards from a rat. I have no idea whether or not that is true, but I'd bet good money no matter where you are in the world your never more than a couple of miles from an Irish Bar. Love em.
:goodCheers, Mac. Delighted you had a great time. I was at the Frampton fight, too. Simply superb although they stopped selling beer too early. When you were in the Beer Authority, did you meet a bartender from Dublin named Tony by any chance? He looks just like the Irish writer Brendan Behan. He's an old friend of mine.
I was drinking the Thomas Adams Lager and the Goose,on the Monday night I finished up in there, when I came in, there were no seats Jimmy was sitting in the middle of the bar,he waved me over,[we had been talking into the small hours the night before], he said," take my stool I'm going to eat,I'll be back and we can chat later". I sat down next to a West Indian guy, this guy had 13 double Seagrams and water ,just while I was sat next to him,we got talking, bought each other a drink and he said I'm going to go check out the Hard Rock Café round the corner,he was talking fine and walked out, straight as a die. I assume he had drunk more before I came in, he sure could put that drink away!
