Just looking at his resume, was he even that good ? who would be his best win Meldrick Talyor? Camacho? Like his run from the first taylor fight to camacho is insanely laughable a fighter in this current generation would get crucified for it
Well, the fact that you can’t even get his initials right demonstrates that you’re not much of an authority on Chavez and how good he or his competition was.
Not really because I still think you’re vastly underestimating one of the most famous boxers of all time who was a national icon. Wins over Rosario, Meldrick Taylor, Lockridge, Camacho, Laporte, JL Ramirez, Randall, Haugen, Roger Mayweather, Limon, and Aguilar are all quality wins on top of the plethora of wins he has over ranked contenders. He pretty much cleaned out the 140 division when he ruled over it. Most of the guys he fought between Taylor and Camacho were ranked contenders btw like Kyung Duk Ahn, Lonnie Smith, John Duplessis, Frankie Mitchell, and Angel Hernandez, who were all ranked by The Ring when Chavez defended against them. The other scrubs he fought were just to fill out stadiums in Mexico to keep his fans happy and stay busy. I mean, have you even watched Chavez, because it kind of comes off like you haven’t?
them fighters you named during his run between the taylor and camacho fight were all bums half of them were coming off fights against fighters with records like 5-5 ? take a deep dive and actually look at these so called contenders they would barely be top 25 in this era for example Kyung the fight before JCC he had a fight with a 3-1 fighter and never fought again after JCC highly top tier caliber
Duplessis's 2 fights before JCC had more loses than wins benson and torres take of the nostalgia shades
exactly, well said. This content is protected like this clip in fifth element. where literally nobody was sure who could beat him. his competition as he fought bigger and better fighters is unreal. to talk about meldrick taylor as only a great win...mel was ranked the 5th best fighter in the world. over Bowe, McGirt and Toney. JCCjr was p4p best fighter in the world longer than most p4p stars. if anything the hbo/showtime mentality about him was as a come close inside body puncher. which is simple embarressing chat...almost stereotyping of any fighter form mexico. his jab, pressure and counter combinations is amazing. he was the GGG of his generation in that way. and to talk about scrubs. durans non title fights in the '70's is ridiculous. 1-3 fighters. 4-0, 7-1 wheatley. this is how fighters even world class highest earners did their career. 2 fights a year was seen as extremely detrimental and also meant that you didnt stimulate the crowd and keep interest in your career. not now. not better not worse. just different style of how boxing as a career was seen.
yeah but come on 12 bum fights in row and Meldrick Taylor being your best win is it really that great at least Duran had ATG wins against Leonard
Congratulations, you can read BoxRec pages, well done, I'm sure your parents are very proud. Now, if you ever get the chance to actually take the time and watch the fighters you are talking about, I'd be delighted to hear why you think these fighters were all scrubs and why the many knowledgeable boxing journalists of the time were wrong to consider them as capable contenders.
are you his secret love child? cant even put together a proper response just some nonsense and i call them scrubs cos they only beat up other scrubs how you beating a fighter who is 3-1 and then getting a world title shot? explain that to me in your infinite wisdom ? imagine canelo who gets non stop hate on here fought some scrub from asia whose last win was against a fighter that was 3-1 ? just pointing out the crazy love people have for these old fighters and how little todays fighters fight when in fact take out all these bum fights they would literally have one worthwhile fight a year
His best win and performance was against Edwin Rosario imo. Rosario was in great form and was a talented boxer and devastating puncher. JCC just destroyed him in one of the most complete boxer/puncher performances filmed. JCC didn’t lose a second of the fight and battered Rosario inside and out. If you watch this fight you’ll understand what absolute greatness is and apologise for this thread. Unless a petulant troll but I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt here.
Are you his ******* son who's mad because he never got visited by Pops? No, I'm not his child and I'm not one of the oldheads, I'm one of the youngest posters on this forum and I've been vocal on many occasions of my belief that fighters today are just as good as one's from previous generations if not better. Fighters get their ranking in an organisation by fighting guys ranked well in the regional rankings which the sanctioning bodies have. Kyung Duk Ahn was the OPBF champion and had beaten his fair share of South Korean countryman back when SK was a hotbed for boxing talent and had beaten a handful of fringe contenders from the Philippines and Mexico. He got his position as the no. 1 ranked contender with the WBC by working up the ranks, not on the strength of a keep-busy fight probably taken to shake off ring-rust while waiting for his shot at Chavez. Nobody holds up Chavez's win over Ahn as one of his better ones, and you're getting way too hung up on it, when it's just one of his B or C tier wins over a good enough contender. Here's his performance against Ahn, which you clearly haven't watched, or any Chavez for that matter: This content is protected For those curious, here is the only other Kyung Duk Ahn fight I could find, his loss against Sang Ho Lee. All the other linked fights on Asian Boxing seem to have been taken down. He doesn't look like much of a world-beater, but he's got some skills and is pretty competent all around. This content is protected I think most boxing fans would be pretty happy to see their favourite fighters be more active even if it meant fighting journeymen. Plenty of top fighters have only one fight a year period, if that. I think it would be a welcome change to see fighters actually be active.
