I've never seen Khan utilise his height effecitvely and show any true knowledge of the range he was maintaining(except for possibly Judah, but Zab didn't exactly do an awful lot to make Khan look anything but brilliant), I don't see how on earth it would all of a sudden be the case if he were to take on Marquez. There's ok/average counter-punchers who wait for you to lead like Judah, and there's great counter-punchers like Marquez, who draw your lead and force you to come at him. Khan's gonna end up falling into range pumping his hands and walk into counters all night imo, Marquez can both punch with him and side-step him when he flails into range poorly positioned. He might have a modicum of difficulty early on but he'll soon begin to time Khan's speed and adapt accordingly.
Yeah he only does if the other guy is used to staying on the edge of range, then his jab looks deadly (Malignaggi). Someone who closes him down (Maidana, Peterson) and his jab is out of the equation. Pacquiao is a far more accurate puncher than Khan and doesn't land on Marquez with any regularity. Khan has a poor defense too.
Good post jpab its only khans physical advantages speed/size/age that make me think this fight would be exciting and a good watch.
I think he beats them all bar Bradley fairly comfortably, wide points wins over Peterson and Guerrero. I think he times Khans flurried combos within 2 rounds, and KO's him within 9. I think he wins a fairly close points decision against Bradley (would be a more comfortable points win if Marqez was younger)...but still wins by about 4 points.
I think Bradley and Guerrero could potentially beat him. Guerrero has the style to trouble him. I don't know why everybody is claiming Guerrero would be some type of easy decision win like that's an easy matchup for him, it just isn't. He's getting on and while Pacquiao's aggression seems to play into his hands, Guerrero is the complete opposite. He's patient, he's fresher than Marquez is, he'd frustrate JMM a great deal the same way Chris John was able to.
Not one mention of Marquez`s mandatory challenger Ricky Burns yet, I think Burns would be a tougher challenge than Bradley from a style and skillset point of view, i see bradley as made for Marquez, Guerrero though thats very different that would be damn tough fight for Marquez, Like someone said earlier i think Marquez would suss out Khan after a few rds. As for Peterson i think he`ll get 1 2`d all night!
I believe JMM would be favourite against them all. I think the Khan fight would go either way with a early stoppage for Khan or more likely a late stoppage by JMM. I would prefer to see him fight Ricky Burns I think his range of boxing skills would be a nightmare and he would be eating burns jab all night think he would lose that one on points. styles make fights lets hope this one happens
Marquez stops Khan and Peterson, loses on points to Bradley and not sure about Guerrero. Need to see him face someone with more nous than Katsidis who was a dream matchup for him.
Im saying more likely I think Marquez wins so dont see what your getting at he will need to get through the first few rounds but I believe he would win. Khan is very fast, that will cause problems I think Marquez down in the first stops khan in the 9th
David, the possibility of the arm punching Amir Khan stopping a high class oppoonent who has never been stopped in 60 professional fights is so remote as to not be worth mentioning. Let alone talking of it as a distinct possibility. It's just silly.
