it really depends how you define "Mexican". If you include Mexican American's like Oscar than out of consistency you have to include Roberto Duran. I for one do not include Duran or Oscar.

Chavez is still number one as he was the #1 P4P fighter in boxing for the better part of a decade. He cleaned out his division and fought real mandatory title fights. In his prime he had the perfect blend of offense and defense. Marquez is behind him which in no way is a bad thing.

Another person blinded by aesthetics. 'Takes lots of punishments'? Marquez gets floored in most of his defining fights. Even Katsidis looked like a one-punch artist against JMM.....Katsidis has rarely floored anyone of class with one shot.

Of course, now Marquez has beaten Fedchenko (me too) he deserves the accolade of 'greatest Mexican'.

Not even close, and he is arguably my 2nd favorite Mexican ever boxer after Chavez.

I wouldn't place him there but I think he's developing an argument:

    Dominant Featherweight Champion
Dominant Super FW CHamp - beating Barrera and Pacquaio
Lightweight Champ - beating the top 2 in Casamayor and Juan Diaz
WBO Welterweight Champ - dominating Pacquaio at the age of 38

The thing is most of you won't be familiar with JMM's pre-Pacquaio resume, which is very underrated

Chris John - undefeated before and after, Marquez deserved the win against a technically very good boxer mover
    Gainer - beat Norwood/Kelly
Norwood - close fight, very very skilled contender
    Medina - 5 time champ
Polo - deserved to be champ about 2-3 times but robbed time and again
Juarez - top contender arguably beating MAB
Salido - just battered Lopez twice to become a champ

    Then there's obviously:

Pacquaio x3 - ATG - we know he won them all really :yep
    Barrera - ATG
    Casamayor - HOFamer
    Juan Diaz x 2
    Katsidis

Quite obvious that you haven't seen much of Chavez.

Chavez had the superior defense, could lead and counter very effectively, while Marquez isn't as effective leading. Could cut off the ring far better, was also better when it came to combinations....Your post is so wrong in so many ways, my friend.

    something like this :

    Sanchez
    Chavez
    Marquez / Ramirez
    Morales / Zarate
    Herrera / Barerra / Olivares / Saldivar
Chucho Castillo / Ricardo Lopez / Miguel Canto

I don't totally count Marquez as n unstopped fighter bikoz 3 KDs in a rd count almost as a stoppage loss despite he did show something by fighting competitively after that rd .
h2h Pacquiao > Marquez and i believe that if he was there and then instead of Marquez , he would have done better against Floyd . He did better than Marquez against Barerra .

    For the record...

    Chavez
    Olivares
    Sanchez
    Saldivar
    Canto
    Morales
    Barrera
    Zarate

and after that you have guys like Azteca, Arizmendi, Casanova, and yes even Marquez fighting mercilessly for the remaining spots.

    :deal

Stick to MMA mate.... you could argue he is better than Morales & Barrera (personally I have it Morales > Barrera > Marquez.. not much in it tho) but he is not better than Chavez or Sanchez, he has no argument there, certainly no strong argument anyway.

You can add Olivares, Saldivar, and Canto to that list as well.

    He also dominated Floyd Mayweather....

Do you know what the word 'dominant' means?

Your head is up your ass & your 1st line proves it because Salvador Sanchez was a smooth boxer that never took much punishment & he`s always ranked very highly.

The rest of your **** about Marquez pissing on Chavez speaks for itself, you really have no clue.

Yes and what? He bossed Pacquaio and the FW division, bar perhaps Norwood, which was a close fight with no rematch. What's your point?
