It's not the first time I've heard he can't make it at 135 anymore. I actually remember reading a statement of his, in which he says he wants to fight at 140.
I think in cottos early fights were at lightweight but he weight about 137 if memory serves as is normal in a lot of non title affairs
I really meant cotto but i got my facts confused becuse i been thinking about this since cotto turned pro... he fought in the amateurs in the 132 division and then when he turned pro he decided to look for a title shot in the 140 division and i really thought he couldve make 135 with some hard work good eating and dedication.. then he didnt stay at 140 too long and decided to go up in weight which i thought was stupid since at 140 he could dominate easily and be an all time great.. but nowadays this going up in weight has become a fab and fighters think that to be a HOFer they need to win belts in different weight classes which i think is stupid :hat
If true I still think JMM is going to be fine. There are some good fights he can make at 140 that he should win or run 50/50 in them. He can fight Hatton, Diaz, or Morales, for good money and he would be the favorite. If he wants he can face a young gun like Khan, Bradley, or Valero and he'd be a live underdog or slight favorite in all of those. JMM only has a few fights left and 140 has bigger paydays than 135 so if he goes to 140 he'll be fine.
As long as he's not fighting slick defensive cuties, JMM should be fine at either 135 lbs or 140 lbs. Hatton beat Marquez??? Newsflash.....anyone that brings the fight to Marquez will get systematically disected! Dont tell me Marquez is pushing it past 135 lbs, the man knocked out two of its strongest lightweights there who had never been stopped!deal:deal
