You could argue that, or you could argue the fact that The LA Times and The Ring Magazine reported seeing Joe Cortez eating in a restaurant with the head of The Nevada State Athletic Commission, in possession of a mysterious Brown envelope, the night before he fight. Either way, he is the most biased referee in the history of Boxing, and his ‘Firm but Fair’ tagline makes me laugh with Irony, or Cry with Hatred.

 

of course i am joking when i said the last part. did you see the smile? but i hope to see a referee who is not a complete opposite of cortez and would just let hatton mug pacquiao like kostya tsyu.

 

sad too he is taking the show from the fighters

 

ime not saying that hatton would of beat floyd,hatton could fight floyd a hundred times and would most probably get beat a hundred times,but not the way he did and ime a ricky hatton fan
but i thought the point of this thread was to establish wether we thought cortez was a decent ref or not nothing to do with hatton

Cortez is a good referee, so what if he has a few negative moments in a few fights?, he also ref'd many other fights with no problems whatsoever. If you look at the history of even the other referees they all have their share of screw ups, none is perfect.

The only reason people are making this big fiasco out of this referee is because of the Hatton fight and the British commentators during that fight. If people expected Cortez to stand and look at Hatton throw elbows, lowblows, shoving, headbutts, endless rabbit punches, hold and hit like the British referee during his fight with Tszyu then those people are stupid.

 

good call bayless is a very good ref, i respect him alot he and goes about his work real well

 

Christ if we all read the thread then we would see that ppl have pointed out a number of fights and not just Hattons as to why Cortez sucks ass.

This thread is not about knocking PBF its about knocking Cortez as a ref.

When it gets to the point that even fighters don't want him in the ring then you can't get clearer then that somethings wrong.
