Come on, let's face it, this is by far the most intriguing fight out there for both fighters at this point in time. I think it has all the ingredients of being an absolute barnstormer and, equally as important, the genuine 135 title would be on the line. It is the only fight that currently matters at 135 and it would be a huge event.

Why make the fight? Well, Valero is looking for a marquee fight and JMM would be a huge scalp if he were to win. That said, stylistically, I think the fight very much suits JMM. I think it would also provide JMM with a chance to prove all of the doubters wrong. JMM has been vastly underrated since his loss to PBF and what better way to come back? Why bother with Khan when there is a much bigger prize at 135? Equally for Valero, why move up when there are great fights still to be made for him at 135?

Why else does this fight make sense now? Well, Valero is currently only licensed in Texas so why not make the fight in Mexico here:

Valero is too fast for JMM, and would stop JMM late in the fight. I love JMM to death, and this is a winnable fight, but Valero right now is just on a tear...

JMM is by far my favourite fighter and is one of the main reasons why I got into boxing so maybe I'm a little bias, but I genuinely believe that this would be a good style-match-up for him. A world-class, accurate counter-puncher could be Valero's undoing and JMM would be an extrememly good measuring stick of how good Valero actually is, IMO. His granite chin and heart could stand-up to Valero's relentlessness and we could be treated to a FOTY such is the beautiful mesh of styles between both of them.

I think that this fight makes perfect sense for both fighters at this point in time. It's the fight at 135 and is also one of the most intriguing, IMO, across all weight divisions at present. It makes perfect sense for exposure for Valero as well and would also make perfect sense to be staged in Mexico considering Valero's current Visa and medical sanctioning issues in the States:good.

I personally think a JMM fight for Valero would be a little bit rushed. Yes his display the other night was exceptional, but it's not enough to put him in with the elite just yet.

Juan Diaz's name has been thrown in the mix, and I think this would be a wise choice of opponent next for Valero. He's a well known name, a step up from his last opposition, and he's capable of making him look good. Not to mention Diaz's hometown is the only place that will grant Valero the license to fight.

As for Marquez, would he feel comfortable in going back down to 135 again? I really hope the effort he put in preparing for the farce of a fight with Mayweather (bloating up two divisions), hasn't taken too much out of him. But that said, be it at 135/140, I think I'll favour JMM over Valero, purely because I'm not completely sold on Valero after just one performance

In an ideal world, JMM would come back down to 135 and this would be his next fight. Unfortunately, it's not going to happen.

JMM is probably going to get more money to fight Khan at 140. This is ideal for Golden Boy because they get to keep the fight in-house. If JMM were to win that, he'd be in line for an even bigger pay-day against Hatton.

If JMM loses to Khan, the fight with Valero could happen but by then his star may have dimmed to the point where Top Rank think the risk/reward factor isn't right.

I'd have money on JMM at Lightweight for this one. I reckon he'd beat Valero easily.
