JMM vs Barrera

Actually, it really depends on how you score the 9th round (if I remember well ?) where the knock down occurred. MAB sending JMM down brillantly with one hell of a counter and hitting his opponent while down. Marco showing class.
Anyways, I scored it the way it should be 9-9 (1 point deduction for the ***** move) and ended with 114-113 for Juan Manual Marquez.
Great technical fight.

 

It is a very underrated fight; to me this performance proved that Barrera was still a great force to be reckoned with and made up what he lost in aggression with pure skill. I've scored it a bit wider for Marquez than I expected to in the past, but that's because every round was close in itself, but I gave JMM the edge in many of them. Very close fight though.

 

A fight Ive always meant to watch going to go watch it now.

 

A draw is OK for me.
But I might be bias because I like MAB better.

 

At the time I thought it was close, rewatching it Marquez landed the better shots, was the effective aggressor, landed more. All MAB did was jab and look to throw counter left hooks on the back foot so you have to give JMM the ring generalship marks because he controlled the action. I thought it was a clear 8-4 to JMM without the point deduction

My score card.
If round 7 had of been ruled correctly imo. Marquez was easily winning the round and dominintly was going to be 10-9 round marquez - the KD didnt make the round 10 -8 Barrera only 10 -9 but then he lost a point so it becomes a 10-10 even round making the
final score 115-114 for winner Marquez.
Just my opinion.

 

You should, its a great fight. It helps you understand barrera's legacy and marquez ' its a close fight but marquez won it.

 

I could see 116-111 which 2 judges gave but 118 -109 was too wide.

 

never scored it but it was a great technical fight. mab jabbed beautifully while jmm landed the better power punches. but barrera had that well placed shot that resulted in the knockdown which was overlooked by the ref.

 

Ask divac. I think he had it 120-108 JMM.

Very underrated classic indeed, and perhaps the greatest display of technical skill shown by both fighters in a fight in the past decade.
