Chavez would grind him down. JMM is a very good boxer but not slippery enought to avoid beeing weared down and knocked out. JMM is very good, Chavez great. Class difference.

I wouldn't favor Juan Manuel Marquez too see the distance in this one. Marquez has become much more offensively orientated since his move up from Featherweight, and this wouldn't benefit him against an offensive force like Julio Cesar Chavez, who would break him down to the body and numb him consistently with head shots. Except some nice countering and good moments from Marquez, but Chavez will more than likely walk through them, avoid others with his excellent head movement, and use his right hand lead and jab as a means to close the distance. Marquez isn't strong enough.

Lightweight is not really a great h2h division for Marquez (not terrible, just not great). Feather and super are.

Vargas in his prime was at least as fast as Diaz and im talking at Junior Middle!! PFP Vargas was way faster and had better power. I usually think Diaz is kind of underrated but he was or is no Vargas.

As for Marquez- Chavez well .......135 was Chavez best weight and i have no doubt hed win this fight, however style wise i see Marquez giving him all he wants alot of the rounds would be hard to score, Marquez would win a lot of rounds with his great counterpunching but yet Chavez would put it on him and score with sharp right hands and alot of everything else in between. Chavez would score a kd or maybe even 2 along the way but i think JMM would last if not for the knockdowns this would be SOMEWHAT CLOSE, BUT Chave takes a convincing decision here. If this was schedueled for 15 Chavez stops him late.

Chavez does the same thing to Marquez at 130lbs.

Well, Chavez. It might be over faster at 135.

I still think Marquez is useful h2h against some of the top guys there (130). Do you not like him against, say, Lockridge or Leija?

Id still give it to Chavez but it would be tight. Chavez did a lot of great work at JL as far as resume and defenses, but he got better when he moved to LW. The LW version of Chavez would not have had as tough a time with Laporte,Lockridge. At JL Chavez beats Marquez by close decision at lw HE BEATS HIM CONVINCINGLY. Not cause Marquez lost a step but because Chavez even got better.

I'm with the majority here, this fight at lightweight i just can't see Marquez lasting the distance, if you look at the problems he had with Diaz for the 1st 7 rounds, then times that by 10 for what chavez will be bringing and i just don't see it likely that marquez will last the 12. Difference in class and size here
