I think this fight is pointless. I'm not looking forward to it. JMM doesn't have Pacman's ability to put on lbs to higher weights. He doesn't have a naturally muscular build. I think it's a mismatch.

    Thoughts?

Pointless. There's a reason Mayweather announced this fight the morning of the Pac-Hatton fight: so he had an excuse to not just fight Pacquaio

kind of pointless but still a good fight.

meaningful if the winner gets a shot at Pac

Meaningful so we find out who will fight the no. 1 p4p fighter in the sport: Manny Pacquiao. And the winner will do so...as the no. 2 p4p fighter in the sport,

True in that sense. But do you actually think JMM has a chance? If the winner is obvious, the fight is pointless regardless of what is at stake. It's like me fighting Wlad for the HW championship. The fight has meaning but the result is already a forgone conclusion.

good for boxing, there is no more tune-up fights nowadays

bad news is, elite boxers fight only twice a year

If PBF wins, are hard core boxing fans going to rank this win as one of his best? I certainly wouldn't. JMM is going way out of his ideal weight class.

Pointless for PBF cuz if he wins he wont get much credit for beating a smaller fighter. He could have gone after one of the top welterweights.

if we haven't seen pac-oscar, people would call this fight a "circus". now people have learned that these little great men cannot be taken for granted and can hang on with the big guys.

the fight is pointless for pbf's side because if he wins, he just beat the smaller man.

Pac vs Oscar was the very definition of a pointless fight

compared to that PBF vs JMM is very meaningful

ITs not about getting credit for either fighter, they both deserve credit for fighting in the first place.

I think its a bit of both, meaningful fight because we want to see what Floyd is about coming off such a long layoff ... and we want to see if he can do something the current p4p king couldn't do - beat Marquez decisively and knock him out.

    :huh

Pac vs Oscar was a lightweight vs a jr middleweight one going up and the other going down in weight to fight at a catchweight.

Floyd vs Jmm is a lightweight vs a welterweight. One going up and the other going down in weight to fight at a catchweight. So basically it's the same shyt right.

So how is one a pointless fight and the other a meaningful fight? :patsch

This is all just a marketing ploy by Floyd

In a financial sense, it's not pointless. His plan is to beat Marquez easier than Pacquaio so he can say "look I just beat the best guy you ever beat easier than you"

Of course, that ignores their respective results against Hatton and Oscar but it doesn't matter. That's what Floyd is going for. He's fighting a guy who has virtually no chance against him based on styles
