which do you prefer? he was alot more defensive before, patiently counterpunching and not doing anything unnecessary.
i actually preferred jmm's old style but after norwood people questioned his heart like larry merchant said "barrera and morales showed the heart to win no matter what marquez hasnt yet" and for marquez to do that he had to change his style just a more agressive style can even change youe mind set but technichally i loved watchin old marquez its a good boxing lesson
I don't think he changed too much, but he knew he had to become more aggressive for a few reasons: 1. Patient Counter-punching doesn't work at all times against all opponents. He still retains that technical mentality during the opening rounds, but as the quality of his opponents increased, so did his need to actively hurt and make them respect him. 2. Besides that farce of a fight with Mayweather, pretty much all of his losses were bull**** decisions against him. His first pro-bout was a DQ for headbutting in the first round, and he later find out that the doctor owned a piece of his opponent. Against Norwood, the ******* ran all night while Marquez chased and tried to land, while the commentators ridiculed the pace and brought up that sorry excuse that he "didn't do enough to take the title", which I don't know how they even teach in terms of round-scoring, and the ref didn't count his first clear knockdown. He landed harder more effective shots against Chris John in a technical fight, and most observers scored him the victor against Pacquiao. With fights like the Diaz fight, he knew that the knockout was the best way to avoid this type of outcome, while at the same time- 3. Becoming more exciting and gaining respect while drawing a bigger crowd. He didn't sacrifice too much defense to become more exciting like some may say lots of Mexican swarmers do, he doesn't move his head constantly but he blocks and subtly slips and dodges well, but showing heart and intelligent aggression to finish the job faster benefits his career. He'll always be smart to do his work effectively and ramp it up beautifully with destructive combos when he smells a finish.
Where are you drawing the line? I really liked the JMM from the Casamayor fight. You can't fight that way against all fighters, though. Styles etc.
what marquez doesn't have is the killer instinct. he could have KO'd pac in the second fight but choose to continue with the gameplan and just counter. he did outbox pac in the fight and was robbed.
Marquez's old style was more typically perfect in terms of execution, but I don't know that the older version would have dropped decisions to John or Norwood. So in basic terms I prefer the past version, but the more modern version with the counter-pressure style is probably more likely to be affective in terms of success.
he could KO'd him when he wobbled him but decided to stand off. he might have learned his lesson with the way he finished casamayor and diaz. at least when we play cricket we are good at it, wheras you lot are **** as **** and everyone shits on you at it.
Ever seen Marquez V Casamayor or Marquez V Diaz? He doesnt KO Pacquiao so in your opinion he lacks a killer instinct?
