According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Joan Guzman tested positive for a diuretic banned in Nevada after his fight against Jason Davis on the Khan-Maidana undercard.

As soon as I saw this thread, I thought it'd be a diuretic. He does seem to have genuine problems controlling his weight which is a shame. I thought he was lazy honestly, but I don't know if that's the case now.

Isn't that the second time already with Guzman?
I can even remember a few guys already predicting this would happen. :patsch

Hardly surprising, like Jack said, as soon as I saw this thread I thought it'd be a diuretic aswell.

I can't recall him every testing positive for a banned substance. You're probably thinking of Ali Funeka, who tested positive for a banned diuretic after his rematch with Guzman. But Joan has failed to make weight on numerous occassions, and apparently backed out of a fight with Michael Katsidis due to weight issues only to claim he was "injured."

This dude really turned out to be a big waste of talent. What a shame...

What's very alarming is that he was consuming something that helped him lose weight, yet he still did not make weight! So just what the fcuk would he have weighed without taking such a substance?

Ali Funeka has also tested positive for this.

Am I the only one who thinks diuretics are more frequent in those weight classes than advertised?
I'm sure you all have met a fighter in person who's made a certain weight and you tell yourself: "How in the **** did he made that weight?"

he is just so unprofessional: he weighed in 9 pounds over the 135-pound limit in his rematch with Ali Funeka after getting a gift draw in the first fight....and now this diuretic news. despite the diuretics, he still failed to make weight...boxrec shows him being 4 and a half pounds over. he keeps moving up in weight yet still fails to make the weight limits.
