Joan Guzman - the perfect sparring partner for Oscar?

    It's obvious that Forbes and Malignaggi are in the mix for Oscar for their slick boxing style. DLH wants to get prepared for Floyd Jr. in May and he’ll fight a guy with a style as close to the September opponent as possible.

    Of course a 12 rounder in May and a good 100 rounds of quality sparring needed if DLH - now back with Floyd Sr. - wants to have ANY chance against Floyd Jr. And back in the gym, there's a guy - a new guy since DLH last camp with Sr. - with almost the same measurements as Jr., similar slick style, great defense and speed - just from a few divisions lower - undefeated WBO SFW champ JOAN GUZMAN!

    Joan is 5′ 7″
    Floyd Jr. is 5′ 8″

    The speed is there, you know, the power behind those punches too, the accuracy, everything. Oscar hopes that not only Floyd Sr. will make a different in the rematch (and his two weeks with Floyd Jr. don’t forget that) but a ‘little guy’ with a very similar size style and skills.





    So what do you think, can Lil’Tyson help DLH for his September fight as a sparring partner?

    I will help Oscar no doubt, but I think that the outcome of the fight with Mayweather will be the same.

    Perfect sparring partner, will make no difference. But a great sparing partner for who ever is about to fight Floyd.

    Maybe, but even so, DLH still going to lose. Guzman is a watered down Mayweather :yep

    The thing here is that all the sparring in the world won't change the fact that DLH can't relax in the ring like PBF, and that seems like his biggest problem to me.
    BTW, BigBone, do you really feel Guzman's power compares to that of PBF? Floyd knocked OUT 140-pound champ Hatton, Guzman can't even knock DOWN a 130-pounder.

    Maybe he could be of help if oscar wants to spare with a boxer is technically skilled (as his fans would say) and running away is part of the arsenal. Ok ok I will not say running away, I will just say relentless movement away from the opponet.

    But if you talk about sparing with a big punch and power I don't think Guzman is the right sparing partner if you are looking for that! He can't even ko a grabe B boxer!

    Guzman would be good, Spinks would be good. Anyone who has the speed and has slick defence would be good for DLH.

    I cant see De La Hoya winning this though, what can Oscar do this time which he couldnt the first time round? Will that stamina problem just dissapear?

    Well, there's a good possibility of that but Floyd wasn't kicking no a**es last May - he barely defeated a supposed-to-be-old figther or queen if you like.
