According to the WBA, Joan Guzman is slated to face the winner of Yusuke Kobori vs. Paulus Moses on March 1st for the interim WBA title Kobori holds.:deal The WBC has also given Guzman a title shot, but, according to his promoter, Jose Nunez, they will accept the WBA's. Guzman will have a tune-up first before fighting for the interim WBA title.
He should fight Valero instead to see who belongs in this weight class. None of them have proven anything so far at this weight class.
Listin Diario, the major newspaper in the Dominican Republic, today's copy. Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, WBA executive secretary, who was at the Guzman/Diaz fight, told Listin Diario directly that Guzman will receive a title shot. Felt Guzman has earned a shot at the title because he is a quality fighter. And because he believes Guzman was treated unfairly by the other boxing organizations, due to the aftermath of the Campbell fight.
i've just checked on the WBA site and for some reason they have 2 WBA lightweight champions, kobori is the champion, and campbell is the undisputed champ. so does that mean if guzman beats kobori he become nates mandotary again? saying that i don't think nate will be undisputed champion for long, maruqez will have the beating of him once he has dealt with diaz. on the WBC site it says that they can't rank joan guzman because he is ranked by the IBF and the WBO.:huhjust checked on the WBO site and they don't have him ranked, neither do the IBF.
