Right...this is the next big fight! It would be intereting to hear especially from those who think Soto would KO Guzman or draw him into a war to win a decision.
I'm going with Soto because I think he is hungrier than Guzman. I also believe that people are overrating Guzmans technical skills and underrating Sotos. Soto blocks punches and slips punch better or at least on equal terms with Guzman. I also believe Soto to be the harder hitter as well as the bigger fighter. I'm going with Soto by UD or late TKO.
Problem with Guzman is he gets into that whole latin american 'machismo' frame of mind and fights other guys fights, and/or showboats and clowns to give away rounds. We haven't seen the very best of Guzman yet, but I suspect he is motivated for this one as it will set up a shot at the big guns. Guzman is scary skilled, like a mix between Toney and Joe Calzaghe stylistically and has very fast hands and an iron chin. Soto is a bit of a stylistic problem for Guzman, but if he committs everything to this fight he should be able to overwhelm Soto and get a decision or a late TKO in a competitive battle(Soto isn't iron jawed by any means). Guzman will do what it takes to win, I'm going with TKO 11 for Guzman, then hopefully we'll see this gem of a fighter in with either JMM or Pac, as he matches up better with both of them stylistically. .... On another note, it's a crying shame that he's been AVOIDED for most of his physical prime, hopefully he gets to shine towards the end and be remembered as an elite and a danger to anyone.
Soto is iron chinned, that shot from Bobby would have KO'd most fighters (Soto didn't see it and it hit him behind the ear, possibly the worst place to get hit). He stayed on his feet and finished BPac.
Soto has a good chin and Guzman doesn't score many a KO, even though he constantly goes for them... Guzman SHOULD impress in this fight because it's his last chance at the big time but, to him, impressing will mean taking Soto's best shot and grinning to show that he's not hurt...even if he isn't, the judges will score that punch for Soto... ...Soto is a hungry exciting young fighter...remember the Barrios fight where judges scored the fight very close because they were impressed with Barrios fighting spirit, never-say-die attitude and number of punches thrown and unimpressed with Guzman's showboating and arrogance EVEN though Guzman had more shots on target and a much better accuracy ratio; they didn't care and scored many rounds for Barrios - Soto will try to make them do the same here...unless Guzman boxes and does so intelligently, he is going to lose on cards, whether he scored more hits or not.
Odds are 1.50 Guzman, 2.60 Soto, to win... ...given the way Guzman fights and the way the judges tend to score his fightstyle, the odds on Soto don't look that bad at all...
Guzman cant win!!! mark my words. The only way he will win is if he wins a very very boring fight by running alot. See if Pac or the other big names will wanna fight him. Unless he turns exciting and trades (which would be his undoing against Soto) his stock will not rise and therefore= no big fights for him...
Soto might be intelligent enough to make Guzman want to prove that he is the more macho guy more than to prove to the judges that he is outpointing Soto... This is not going to be a walk in the park for Guzman...:naughty
Guzman has a much better chin than Soto, who was dropped by Bobby Pac. Soto also doesn't have a really big punch, he has decent power, the trading would benefit the much faster Guzman, who has an iron jaw.
Soto wasn't dropped, he was stunned and he KO'd BPac a few rounds later. Soto has KO'd his past 6 opponents, while Guzman hasn't KO'd anyone since 2004. Guzman also blows up in between fights, which will sap his stamina is the fight goes into the later rounds. He faded horribly against Barrios. Soto is going to win.
All true...and therein lies the problem...coming against someone with the reputation for being a puncher, like Soto, Guzman will want to show he's the man and will just sit there to be hit, only so that he can grin back at Soto...proving that he's not hurt...In the meantime, whenever they fight inside, Soto will get the better of him, and instead of fighting outside, Guzman will want to go toe to toe, to prove how macho he is...this will suit the Mexican! Guzman CAN win this if he wants...he might choose to throw it away though...
Erik Morales had an Iron Jaw. Guzman has not been truly tested i dont think and no i dont think Barrios was that much of a test. I didnt know Soto was dropped by Pac??? wasnt he just stunned??? And saying Soto doesnt have power?? hasnt he knocked out 11 of his last 12 opponents. That sounds like power to me. We will see this weekend. Like i said Guzman could very well win a boring ass fight by running all night but in the end that wouldnt set up big fights for him so i dont think thats much of a win.
Problem is not that this wouldn't set up exciting fights but that this just isn't Guzman...he likes to show how tough he is, more even than he likes to brawl...he will never run, even if he has to, to win!
