Yeah but Chad Dawson would not lose to garbage like Kelly Pavlik or Jermain Taylor and he's certainly not in my stable of Supernatural genius level fighters to begin with.

He might not lose to Taylor...although I wouldn't bet on Chad but he most likely would lose to Pavlik...:yep

    Great post Amsterdam.
(Well, Linares is a great talent and a possible p4p-er as well... and only 22)

I like the look of Gamboa a lot, he is fast as ****, throws great combinations, mixes up his attack and hits hard.

BUT...his defence does not look very good, he almost does a Naz type thing sometimes, leaning back and he is so confident that he gets tagged clean on the way in. This may well be simply because he knows he can walk through anything that lands due to the opponent, and perhaps he will tighten it when he steps up.

But I remember years back when I first saw Cotto fight and started raving about him to my friends, even against lesser opposition he had a good guard, looked super economical in terms of output to punches landed, wonderful accuracy and patience.

As it turns out he has not been too hard to find when he has decided to get involved in a toe to toe battle, but the fundamentals all looked textbook and he looked to take every fight in a manner that meant he would not be prone to bad habits.

Someone like Naz got more and more used to starching guys and abandoned everything else, someone on a lesser level like Kevin Mitchell got into bad habits by using the jab less and less and headhunting because he was so used to bulldozing lesser opponents...

And Khan was the same until he got dropped badly by Limmond and he genuinely looks to be being more patient and tightening his guard up.

Gamboa looks so talented that I am sure he will get better and better and adapt to the better opponents, but I think he needs to start stepping up soon to avoid becoming obsessed with the KO and more and more open as he pours in.

No, Jaycuban comes on here to promote all of the Cuban defectors going pro and has a film coming out about how wrongfully Rigondeaux is being treated right now, even though he's an ATG amatuer.

Jay says that Gamboa's not even the best of the lot, although I highly, highly disagree with him on that and states if fatboy Solis can get into shape that he will wow people more so than Gamboa even.

Realistically, it's impossible to say exactly how good he is. Put him against a B level counterpuncher with experience or a B level solid pressure fighter and we'll see what he's got. But right now, I'd definitely take Arthur, etc. over him, without even blinking.

You've got to be pragmatic about these things.:thumbsup

    Arthur?

See, this is where you are not thinking straight. Gamboa disposes of C levels much more impressively than Arthur does and Arthur plays right into Gamboa's style as his defence is poor and has a suspect chin, as well as having little in the way of good speed or timing. I'd even take the joke known as Amir Khan over Arthur at 135.

You are not improving on your ability to rate a fighter.

Arthur is strong and quite solid. He hits quite hard. Gamboa isn't ready for that kind of an opponent yet. That comes with time...

How does Arthur have a suspect chin? Have you seen the shots he ate from Gomez in his loss a few years back? Gomezs one strength is a vicious left hook and he was landing flush with it, it took a lot of punishment before Arthur went down and then foolishly got straight back up without trying to compose himself and got done.

He is nothing special but his chin is hardly suspect.

I am hyped about watching Gamboa progress, as I love his style but his opponents are lower than C Level and not a patch on some of the people Arthur has fought (as should be the case given how long Arthur has been fighting and how new to the pro ranks Gamboa is).

Who do you class as the best two fighters Gamboa has faced? Presumably De Jesus is one....I hope Samuel Kebede is not the other..because that man is AWFUL.

I have NEVER seen a more misleading record to a fighter, anyone who remembers how he was against Scott Harrison will know just how bad he is.
