Nova was basically a Toughwoman, standing up to a ton of vicious right hooks and straight lefts from the much more skilled southpaw but completely out of her depth. It was essentially target practice until stopped for Ms. Serrano, who improves to 13-0-1 with nine kayos.

 

BTW - this Alex Pérez (a late substitute for Jose Palma) is the lightweight Alex Pérez, dropping down to super featherweight:

Did pretty well against him, too. Not a bad fighter at all. He's got wins over Martin Honorio and Cassius Baloyi.

ESPN Deportes just cut away from the action right after the bell to start round 1!!!!!!!!

 

OK, good - they got their **** together in a hurry. We only missed twenty seconds due to their technical difficulties.

 

Round 1

Méndez jabs and takes a step back. Pérez keeps waving his own slower jab up at the taller man but Méndez is in rhythm, jabbing and stepping very calmly and fluidly. Nice jabs by Méndez now stepping in close around Pérez , snapping out of and quickly recoiling back into a high tight guard. Méndez is completely owning the ring, placing his feet just outside his opponents' to keep him constantly turning and tossing jabs into his face. Good short hook swatting up at the face by Pérez. His only really good shot. Méndez keeps turning him and jabbing him, tossing in some light rights behind the jab.

Round 2

They step together and trade hooks with Méndez leaning back; his lands harder. Pérez goes to the body with several hooks and slapping palm-up rights. Méndez starts to chop his man down with the 1-2 crashing unimpeded on the whiskers. Vicious rights rip down across the shorter man's head as he tries to back up and float his gloves around to anticipate and catch shots, waving a few up-jabs at Méndez to hold him outside. Méndez just takes his time coming forward, slipping jabs by leaning his tall frame back and lining up HARD, straight, accurate rights that demolish Pérez. More rights, Pérez slinks against the ropes!! He's done!! Pérez takes a count all the way up to nine and climbs back up using the ropes. Méndez comes forward with jabs and crosses to the face. Left hooks to the body!!! RIGHT TO THE FACE!! KO!

 

That was a complete obliteration.

Nevermind that Pérez already had as many knockout losses as he had total wins (no ****; he was 23-42 and this is his 24th time being finished off) - Méndez looked sharp and terrifying.

 

Juan Manuel Marquez is being interviewed live now via satellite (sitting on a stool in a boxing ring in a gym, in a full double-breasted suit and tie...kind of an odd sight).

His face doesn't look the least bit marked up. Totally, fully recovered. :shock:
