Pretty intriguing match-up between the talented, if often mercurial Guzman going up against an undefeated, if somewhat unheralded Russian. We know that Guzman, at his best, brings a solid skill-set, a sound shell based defense, and solid accuracy and power to the ring. But at times, he's been outworked, most notably against Funeka during their two point series. Meanwhile, Allakhverdiev gets this opportunity as a result of his decimation over an unspectacular but quite solid Kaiser Mbuza. In that fight, he featured fast hands, good in and out movement, a decent attack to the body, and a willingness to take advantage of every single opening that presented itself to him. Granted, Mbuza presented a lot of openings because he's just not that fast of hand or foot, but the fact remains that Khabib looked awfully good that night. Still, a fighter with Guzman's style and ability is likely going to be a much tougher problem to solve than the tough, but relatively straightforward Mbuza. So...who do you think takes this...?
Guzman will be a nightmare for any 140lb fighter, guzman brings a skill-set that many in the 140 division don't have. Most top guys at 140 are average boxers with punching power, but guzman brings world class skills, solid chin, decent punching power, great hand and foot speed.I would like to see guzman face rios, khan, peterson or broner.
I'm expecting Guzman to take a decision. I'll be a little surprised if he stops Allakhverdiev. What I'd like is to see the upset, just because it would wind up being better for boxing. Guzman remaining unbeaten and popping back up every once in a while, if and when he feels like entering camp (which may or may not mean attempting to make weight) is...not so great for the sport. He's now had many chances to fulfill his potential, and hasn't, and I think everybody is tired of holding their breath. Allakhverdiev, meanwhile, is a breath of fresh air - and was looking promising before this match was signed. It would be nice to see fresh blood in the mix and see him catapult himself to big opportunities by bagging a big name like Guzman's.
Guzman vs Broner would be very interesting. In fact Guzman vs any of the top 135/140 would be interesting. He either doesnt wanna take the risk or other fights dont wanna risk it against him.
I think Allakhverdiev has the speed, skill and pop to make things awfully difficult Guzman, and it's possible that he can outwork and outhustle Little Tyson for large chunks of the fight. That said, Guzman has a way of catching the judges's eyes with his clean punching and defensive awareness, and the fight is being held in Sunrise Florida...which essentially gives him home field advantage. I've got Guzman winning a close decision that he might not necessarily deserve in a fight that I feel could be a lot of fun to watch.
Should be a good fight. I think Guzman at 36 is a little past it and has slowed down some but still a pretty good fighter. An impressive win for either guy who give us a new serious player in the already solid division.
I only voted for Khabib because I'll be kind of rooting for him and I expected the voting to be heavily in Guzman's favor, but I guess not! Anyway, honestly I think Guzman can get by with a close decision, but it should be close either way and I won't be surprised with the outcome.
I will be there tonight. It is boxing iwth a concert(Dmx, fabolous, fat joe, etc). Should be a good night.
The key to this fight is styles. If the russian could overwhelm Guzman with volume he could win as he has the toughness, speed and defence to do it. Only problem is thats not his style. He's a low volume tactical boxer. Do you really think he's going to out box Guzman? If the answer is yes then Guzman has gone seriously down hill. I doubt it. Guzman by late rounds KO or UD.
