Wtf. T rex fight was at junior lightweight in which that was way way before the Soto showdown. Bad comparing pej.
Bad comparing? That was a legitimate title defense when he had the WBO for 2 or 3 years. He was on top of the world at that time and infact fantasy match-up against pac had him winning at that time. Yet he chose to fight a fighter ranked 15th or something by WBO (not by the other organizations). It boils down to matchmaking choices. Now, he is nowhere, not even in any radar or no one is even mentioning his name except in occassional tthreads like this. He is in OBSCURITY. Fighting someone with a stature like JUdah would be much better exposure than fighting the wieghing scale. This is a fight where he does not have to go on diet and if this is supposed to be an easy fight (which I doubt because the last Guzman KO was at 122), then let them prove it. Judah, best described as on lacking heart when outworked ala Freitas, would surely not be discouraged with pitty-pat punches. If there was something to be gained by fighting Davis, then surely fighting Judah would bring more. I had been saying this since I joined ESB, Guzman is way pverrated. He is slick but lacks power. His slickness is also frugal offensively. If penalosa throws less than 10 punches in some round, that is very genrous relative to Guzmans output.
Guzman was not the top of the world when he fought T rex. At that time i believe Barrera was the man at 130 pounds until Marquez beat him and you know the rest. On that time when Guzman fought T Rex no top fighters wanted to fight him. When Guzman beat Soto, Arum was too scared to put Pacquiao in the ring with Guzman. Guzman wasn't way overrated cause he wasn't the man at that division and nobody really talk about him. I believe he's underrated . I said from day one i feel Guzman would beat Pacquiao at either 130 or 135 pounds. But since Pac is at 140, i still feel Guzman at 140 would still beat Pacquiao. It sucks that fight never happen cause i feel Guzman style would be a huge problem for Pacquiao.
Guzman just needs to fight someone decent. That's it. Judah would have been fine. Diaz also. Just someone decent. If he has name, better. Better than T-Rex, or the last one he slaughtered via a UD. He needs to fight and show to the world his potential to be an ATG.
Not literally top of the world because he never reached that zenith. But among ESBers, Guzman was highly regarded so much so that he always wins fantasy match-ups. To say that no one wanted to fight him at that time might be true but that was a legitimate title defense and I am sure that there were fighters ranked higher that Davis. Pac chose Larios, a former champion as tuneup or Solis who at that time was undefeated, yet Guzman chose a fighter who is older (and unranked) than him as title defense? I am not sure that he will win against Pac. Guzmans defense is not based on moving the feet but rather using body movement and hands to parry or avoid punches. In order to defeat Pac, you must be abvle to use feet movement to control distance which is not Guzman's character. Besides his punches would not be respected by Pac at all and would just walk through it unlike that of JMMs. Mosqueda, for all his sluggishness was able to connect tons of punches. Soto is way too slow as a gauge (Bobby Pac almost KOed him, yep -BOBBY PAC).
If you review Guzman's resume, he has a habit of fighting every 1 or 2 years. For a suipposedly talented fighetr, the only notable names in it: Mosqueda ansd Soto. He is not young anymore at 33 going 34 and desperate people can not be choosy. A fight with Judah, or any of the Diazes like Juan, David would be better. Announcing that he is avoided yet not taking any fights? It is like trying to preserve that 0-loss column. I do not even know why Calzaghe is getting so much flak in ESB for supposedly having avoided or having the weakest resume in boxing, when the GreatGhost Guzzy does not even have one. The only one that I could name who has a weaker resume and is highly regarded in ESB is Valero.
When a talented fighter 33 years old has a resume as thin as Guzman's with such long periods of inactivity, there is usually enough blame to go around to both the figher and his managment team. Guzman's not ducking all the fighters he could have fought, but he's certainly not blameless in this situation. Whether he's overrated or underrated, I think everyone will agree that he's wasting his career at the pace he's on.
First off, Clazaghe sucks. Secondly, Guzman simply was not landing as cleanly as Compubox suggested. That is my contention.
Compubox does not make superlative value judgments distinguishing one landed blow as cleaner than another. It is limited in that it's just a black and white tally operating on a rudimentary logic-board "yes/no" axis, but at the end of the day a connect is a connect. And connects are supposed to equate to points. Yes, I know scoring is supposed to be based on "clean, effective punching" - but as there is no scientific way to measure the effectiveness of a given punch (unless it puts its target to sleep) we have to work with the resources we have - and that's where compubox comes in. The numbers don't suggest anything - they are what they are. You take the numbers and draw your own conclusion from them.
Soto was never down in his career but he was badly stung by Bob Pac in one round. Not even in the Guzman fight was he hit like that. Bobby Pac is a journeyman but his punch packs a wallop -if only he could connect it upstairs instead of downstairs.
solid post noob! i gave up on guzman when he came in over weight & still managed to ducked out of the cambell fight. the judah duck was just the iceing on the cake. **** him.
