I never said they were Blackballed, never, I said they were World Classed... McAvoy fought quite a few of the RING's Top 10 men, Len Harvey Kid Tunero Jack Peterson - HW Al McCoy Babe Risko John Henry Lewis Marcel Thil Ginger Sadd Freddie Mills that's not bad for any fighter. and as I SAID, the good few more on the Fringe were World Classed by the same RING Magazine in the Annual Ratings.
I don't have a problem with some of the things mcvey says. I have a problem with many of the things he doesn't say.... he always Blanks things Stated in these conversations, throws a new thing into the mix and then adds to his assault things that a Poster never even stated, rides that out for a bit trying to malign people, in the hope the thread will change in his direction, while still never addressing what a posters original statement or dispute was about. He does it with everyone he disagrees with, never discusses, just assaults & maligns, has fought with damn near everyone and been Banned Quite a few times because of it. mcvey never comes to talk, discuss, learn, receive and 'acknowledge' Documented Material, he comes to fight & cause trouble and everybody knows it. in this particular Thread, it is about TOP Fighters in Boxing's Leading Nations, who are not in the Ring's Top 10 World Ratings... but ARE World Classed, he won't ever give such fighters recognition of those PRINTED, RECORDED Already Written History, by the Very Same RING MAGAZINE! it is not only assine, wrong and madness, it is down right insulting to the Fighters, Boxing, the History and the Facts RECORDED. mcvey can only count to 11 - Champion & Top 10 Contender...all other fighters in the Big Wide World, thousands of them, well sorry, their nothing. Yeah, don't be ridiculous, is my response on the matter!
How many of them did he beat? Not bad is not GREAT ,McAvoy never fought at160lbs in the US. If he wanted a middleweight title fight why didnt he fight at that weight? Why didnt he fight Apostoli Krieger Overlin Steele Brown Hostak Why didn't he take on Australian's Ron Richards and Fred Henneberry? Don't tell me ,they all avoided him. McAvoy was a crowd pleasing fighter,he would have pulled in a good crowd against any of those men. The fact is McAvoy did not press his claims to a middleweight title shot and that's on him.
are you mad, Did Jock make the Fights, NO, did some of those fights you mentioned, perhaps not get looked at, of course they would have, but it might have had a lot to do with Location & Time and Previous Booked Fights. Mac lived in the UK, it wasn't like today where people travel around like it's nothing... How many of those men were in NY while McAvoy was there??? Who knows, Steele, lived 3000 miles away on the West Coast, so did Apostili, GOD knows where the others were based, who was available for the 'period' McAvoy was there, because it may not have occurred to you, there is a time limit on one's visa. and again, in many an instance negoitiations may not have been possible at that time period owing to other commitments Plus, as I understand it McAvoy was there in Direct Pursuit of a Title Showdown. Flip it too mcvey, it always works both ways, Why didn't some of them go to Britain??? and NO!!! Who said 'they' avoided him, who, just you being the conflicting troublemaker that you are... Who said they avoided him, NO ONE!
You come here to hype up domestic level fighters to world class and then by extension raise you Grandfather's profile to that of a world class fighter which he never was. Klompton destroyed you on here when you attempted this before, there is no need for me to do so. Everyone has their own idea of greatness, mine just does not happen to include Area level fighters who never even won a national title. You seem to believe you have a monopoly on knowledge concerning UK fighters. I've been following boxing at all levels for 68 years and,I'm afraid I will not bend the knee to your jingoistic bias and hyperbole. As far as learning goes,I have learnt a great deal on this forum and others, but I can't recall a single instance when you added to my boxing education.
If McAvoy was," in direct pursuit of a middleweight title showdown, why did he never enter a ring in the US weighing less than168 1/4lbs? Which middleweights of class did McAVoy challenge in the US? Which country was the center of world boxing, the US or the UK? In the 1930's decade,McAvoy's prime years the UK had 2 world champions. Berg and Kane. Dave Shade came to the UK and fought Harvey,Harvey went to the US but did not have success there, 3 fights 3 losses. Your post, We ALL Know Boxing IS Corrupt, Bent, Partisan, Nationalistic, Invested In, Owned and Secured. You never tire of making excuses for your heroes. If McAvoy was not avoided why didn't he fight any of those I mentioned? Matches could have been made before he even left the UK,you don't press your claims for a title chance by fighting journeymen like Anson Green, and Jimmy Smith who had lost his last 3 fights, and whom McAvoy outweighed by11lbs
I am not here to educate you or anyone else... I am here to read, learn, relax and enjoy. I have NO monopoly on anything in Life, period, little own Boxing. I offer Recorded Documentation in some discussions that I am interested in, or source out material for, while reading, learning & reviewing. I am polite, respectful and never initiate arguments, never mind entertain things I or other Posters never even said. I look at TOP Fighters from TOP Boxing Nations and will consider, take interest in their careers and when applicable to a thread try & give them their due. I am realistic & honest enough to acknowledge that Boxing IS a Racket and that many a great fighter could have been more and in some cases should have. That's it, I'm a Fan, a Collector (smaller now than what I once had), and a researcher for enjoyment purposes. Keep well and may Almighty God look gracefully on you, all of us.
You havent answered my questions and you won't. You personally insult me,which is okay,no problem what so ever. "and to be able to count beyond 11." "never discusses, just assaults & maligns, has fought with damn near everyone and been Banned Quite a few times because of it." "mcvey never comes to talk, discuss, learn, receive and 'acknowledge' Documented Material, he comes to fight & cause trouble and everybody knows it." "are you mad," But having done so ,don't give me the "peace and love" Ringo Starr bit, like you like me , because it's just hypocritical.
Sort of like Luigi Minchillo... He lost two world title tries and his Las Vegas debut in a ten rounder. BUT, look WHO he lost to! in those 3 fights!!
Minchillo lost a fight early in his career because of injury. He lost to Duran.Hearns and McCallum. So 1 loss because of injury and 3 losses against great fighters Among others McAvoy lost to Billy Chew a debutee Jim Pearson18-11-2 Joe Rostron36-3-4 Jack Casey 114-4--14 For the Northern Area title Spot the difference?
Apropos of McAvoy's solo win over Len Harvey in1933 ,Harvey defeated him 3 times. Harvey damaged his right hand in his middleweight title defence against Jack Casey and reinjured it in his next bout with Eddie Phillips. Due to defend against McAvoy two weeks later Harvey was forced to ask for a postponement. The promoters agreed to a two weeks extension ,but this wasnt nearly enough.Harvey went to a specialist who told him he had displaced a knuckle on his right hand, which was put back into place but the specialist told him the inflammation would take some time to disperse and recommended he did not fight for another six months. Harvey asked for a longer recuperation period but it was refused. As a consequence Harvey fought McAvoy virtually one handed relying almost entirely on his left,it wasnt enough ,with no need to worry about Harvey's right McAvoy could storm in as he liked and he took full advantage of that,to gain a points decision and the British Middleweight Championship.
McAvoy had hand injuries all his career, not from punching heads as many big bangers do ,but from injuries sustained from working in the cotton mills of Lancashire,[ he broke both his thumbs,] and these became stiffened through the years.Jock developed the habit of biting his thumbs through the gloves to loosen them up.McAvoy often fought with painkilling injections in his hands. Whilst in NY Jock damaged his hands further banging Anson Green in the head,16 days later he was fighting John Henry Lewis for the Lhvy title, ridiculous scheduling. Because of his inflamed hands McAvoy did virtually no sparring for the fight. Lewis won handily ,years later McAvoy said," I never grumbled about the verdict.,Lewis deserved to win,but if my hands had been okay I might have done him." Afterwards the ringside Doctor said,"no broken bones, but high sinovial condition and inflammation, don't box again for 6 months." Back in the UK ,6 weeks later McAvoy boxed Jack Peterson for the British Heavyweight title losing on points.Jock said afterwards,"I couldn't break an egg." I find it strange that Thistle hasn't mentioned any of this?
