Just heard the sad news that Joe has passed away in his Brisbane care home. Very sad news. Condolences to his family and friends. A really nice guy by all accounts. RIP Joe.
2025 really has been a bad year for boxing, so many former legends and names have died this year. 2025 for boxing has been like 2016 for celebrities. RIP.
This is sad news. Joe Bugner was known as a nice guy and an inspiration. Prayers to him and his family
Ah terrible. 75 is a good life but i expected him to live longer. RIP Joe. One of the most talented heavyweight contenders of all time. Condolences to his kids and the rest of his family.
Joe was one of a kind, collecting belts and nationalities across decades. He turned pro at 17 after a short amateur career and lost his debut but was not dissuaded, winning several fights in a row as he continued his apprenticeship. Was a three-time European and two-time British and Commonwealth heavyweight champ. Also added the Australian title twice while into his 40s. Finally, captured the lightly-regarded WBF crown at a ripe old age vs Bonecrusher Smith. Bugner was born in Hungary and left as a young refugee when the Soviets invaded. He became a naturalized British and Australian citizen over the course of his life to claim citizenship in all three countries, but spent the latter portion of his life as an Aussie, hence the nickname Aussie Joe. He lived a colorful life and a full one. RIP Aussie Joe, and thank you for brightening our planet and our sport.
He left so much in the golden era of boxing. Hopefully he enjoyed some long decades with his loved ones.
Rip Aussie Joe. Loved the interview when he was asked who he would fight next and he said anybody, I would even fight Jesus Christ, the reporter replied oh come on now Joe, you're only saying that because you know he's got bad hands!!
