Joe Bugner was an all-time great contender. Could have challenged for the title in any era. Could have been a champion in some eras. Accept it. Respect it. Learn to live with it.

LOVELL OUT IN TWO ROUNDS: Bugner knockouts out Alberto Lovell in November, 1974. Lovell substituted for Boone Kirkman.

Bugner outclassed Henry Cooper in 1971, easily winning their bout by using his steady, accurate left jab.

Good stuff. This place has seen a downright unpleasant lack of Bugner threads recently.

Chuvalo , Cleroux , Stander , Quarry , Marchegiano , Mesi , Sanders , Valuev , Ibragimov , Vitali and even Wladimir were all greater than Joe Bugner .
I got a feeling that i even omitted some more .
Bugner does not make my top 10 white heavies .
Just wait until Helenius , Fury and Price finish their careers .

    edit : and i forgot Quarry :(

He does not make top 20 White heavies. Guy was too damn slow. He took good shot, but had most boring approach to fighting I ever saw. He came along in era where White Americans and Europeons were becoming rare in boxing, and Soviet countries were still not letting their guys turn pro. It made him stand out, but he was just average at best.

I think n argument can b made about Bugner making d top 20 white heavies . He took Ali d distance twice , which is better than d admittedly much smaller Bonavena managed 2 do , gave d admittedly much smaller Frazier a tough fight , let alone went d distance with him as well , i doubt that there were more than 15 who'd have achieved d same . It is h2h greatness here after all , and Bugner's size must count 4 something .

Both Klitschkos would beat Joe Bugner.

Add Dempsey, Marciano, M. Baer, Tunney, Schmeling, several from the early 1900s . . . Bugner ain't top 20.

    Stander? No, not him. Sanders???

I did not forget Rocco .
Tunney ? Schmelling ? Frazier would have slaughtered them .
Baer ? If so where does it end ? Lou Nova should also be in in that case .
Dempsey ? he cheated vs Sharkey and got KOd by Flynn . Possibly his loss 2 Flynn was a fix , although i don't think so , but more possibly , some of his wins were fixes as well .

Stander stopped Earnie Shavers and got stopped by Norton & Frazier only due 2 cuts .

Corrie Sanders aside from Wladimir he went 12 with Ross Puritty , something very few had managed 2 do because Puritty with his durability , punching ability and energy conserving style becomes critically dangerous past rd 10 , something very few had ever tried 2 check .
Sanders also has at least as good a winning resume as Roy Jones Jr. or Ray Leonard if u check it closely .
Leonard : young Wlad compares 2 drained Hearns and all things considered Sanders' fair & square win over Ross Puritty surpasses Leonard's doubtful win over Hagler when everything was in Leonard's favor . Sanders has plenty of wins encompassing Leonard's wins over drained Duran & Benitez .
Leonard fought drained men , Jones fought a drained James Toney and a list of undersized dead men , nothing better than Corrie Sanders has achieved .
