Joe was an enigma.Early in his career he was popular and the fans took to him.However in too many fights after that he turned into a pacifist,and that's what turned the fans against him.Some said it was because he was an immigrant but that was nonsense.What frustrated people was that they knew it was in there but it all too often didn't come out.They looked at this 6'4" magnificent physical speciman with a great jab,good skills, decent power and strength,he at times backed Frazier up in there and they expected more.He must go down however after Lewis as our best heavyweight, he could go in there and live with anyone at a time when the heavyweights were probably at their strongest.

Definitely the second best British heavyweight of the last 70 or so years,after Lennox Lewis. More talented than Frank Bruno.

Prime for prime, he could have whupped some of the alphabet champions who preceded and succeeded him.
