Sometimes after seeing a fight that long ago, the memory embellishes and distorts the actual facts...and then years later, you see the fight again and you go..."oh, yeah,....that's the way it really was..."

So you find that time kind of distorts the fights? Are there are fights you can recall extremely vividly from 30-40 years ago? Like an extremely good movie that you can reference at will and kind of evaluate at length... did any fights ever really "click" that way for you?

I'd probably have to go with Duane Bobick, mentioning Houpe and Bunny Johnson, Bugner would have had his hands full as well, Why did not he take a big Europeon bout with Bunny Johnson anyway? 1975 when they were both "Ranked"
As far as Bugner being stronger and pushing Bobick around? 1) When did Bugner ever push anyone around? 2) Is he even stronger than Bobick ? they both defeated about the same caliber
Bobick would have been much more agressive, Does not mean he would have won, Bugner had ability, when he was so inclined to use it!
Bobick had a better punch and agressivenes, Bugner Stamina Safety first.

I'd have to lay a "6-5 pick 'em!" lay 6 to win 5 either way.

One thing I gotta say here, I'm tired of hearing hey Bugner and Bonavena can go the distance, that makes them the best!! Neither one ever knocked out a top ten opponent who was ranked at the time they fought them! So Earnie Shavers, and MacArthur Foster went the distance with Muhammad And Jack Bodell beat Bugner. so this means they can all three beat Jerry Quarry!

Bugner had an awesome chin. No way Bobick stops him. Bugner had proven chin, durability, and ability to go the distance. He wasn't a big hitter but would take Bobick into deep water and dominate late for an easy decision or late stoppage. Probably a UD.

I get your point, but never the less Bugner beats Bobick.

I don't think they fought the same level of competition at all.

Bugner fought Muhammad Ali (twice), Joe Frazier, Jimmy Ellis, Frank Bruno, Ron Lyle, Earnie Shavers, Mac Foster, Greg Page, Quick Tillis, David Bey, Henry Cooper, Chuck Wepner, Brian London, Richard Dunn, Jose Luis Garcia ...

Bobick fought Ken Norton, John Tate, Chuck Wepner, Kallie Knoetze, Scott Ledoux (twice) and not much else.

If they fought in 1977, the year Bugner took a hellacious beating in losing a 12-round split decision against Ron Lyle, and Bobick was wiped out in seconds by Norton, I'd go with Bugner by stoppage.

Bugner wiped out Richard Dunn in a round a few months after Dunn fought Ali. Bobick had been exposed as a slow starter. In addition to Norton, Ron Lyle had knocked out Bobick so bad in one of Lyle's last amateur fights, Bobick remained out for several minutes. Stevenson "overhand-righted" him into unconsciousness, too. And John Tate would do it in early 1979.

If you jumped on Bobick early, he was kind of lost. Bobick needed to set a slow, monotonous pace.

I think Bugner jumps on him early and scores an early KO. Or, if Bugner plays it safe, coasts to an easy decision. But Bobick isn't stopping Bugner. Not in Bugner's prime.

the thing is 'Young' (old) Sanford, Bunny Johnson, LeDoux. would all give the NOW immortal Joe Bugner fits to. Does anybody really remember Bugner on here, He's gonna knock poor Duane down? I've never seen him knock anybody down! Boring Bugner would have also lost to Norton, Knoetze, and Tate!

One thing for sure , say what anybody wants to say about Duane ,he has two things going for him in this bout
    1) Agressiveness
    2) He hits Harder than Bobbing Bugner ever did!

I'll go with Bobick "seems like it will be a "World's greatest Upset for Boxing 24" American Fighter's are better than British fighter's (Especially heavyweights)-maybe its the way they are trained , since Bugners Hungarian. I know immortal world beater Bugner was the greatest thing since "afternoon tea" -Bobick would be aggressive, and take they initiative, and since Bugner did not eat breakfast fore he could not break eggs, would not have anything to worry about! Bugner was neither a classy boxer or combination puncher, and i've never seen him even knock another fighter down! They only time I saw those 'combinations' was when Bugner was getting hit by them Lol!

Duane Bobick got beat by punchers who could hit, not unpunchers who could not hit, Joe Bugner was an unpuncher who could not hit! Had a kayo record that prove statistics do lie!
Lets put it into perspective, neither one had to work for a top ten rating, neither one should have ever been ranked over Earnie Shavers, Jimmy young or Ron Lyle! Unless they beat one of them!
Not only does boxing 24 see another immortal Bugner win here!
It would be BY FAR JOLTIN JOE'S biggest victory, besides old 'Enry
and I do not count Bugner's victory over Bonecrusher Smith, who dislocated his shoulder after a first round pounding of Bugner's head!

Bugner was a world class fighter. Bobick was not. I like Joe by clean decision.

You are absolutely correct. Eddie Futch was Bobick's trainer and he turned Duane into a plodder. Bobick could actually box, with skill, as an amateur. As a pro Bobick could not be missed with a right hand. Still Bobick went 48 - 4 as a pro, with something like 42 KOs. That is impressive. Apparently the man could better than those in this thread are giving him credit for.
