I love Thailand...and if I go live on Koh Samui for the next 20 years does that make me Thai....no I'm still a farken farlung!....I got nothin' against anyone comin' over here....I've been around....I know we're the lucky country....it's the land of plenty...but what's wrong with other nationalites bein' staunch and bein' a proud 'whatevertheyare'....I don't think any true Aussie to hold that against them....and anyway it doesn't matter what breed they are..if they're any good..we'll claim 'em anyway.

Surely it's about what people consider themselves.

These two are unrelated. Citizenship papers are legally binding documents recognised by the government. There's no interpretation, you either are or are not a citizen of Australia.

Yes, boxing records will specify Mundine as a 4-time world champion, but they also specify what version of the title he held, who he defeated to win it, and who else held the other titles which means the information is open to interpretation.

    :D good one

As for the Boog, I reckon one of the reasons he chose to come to Oz was to ride the boxing wave that had hit the country in the mid 80's with Fenech and Ellis. He marketed himself very well and made a nice bundle

Plus, the fatwa he received for daring to beat 'Enery Cooper became too much to bear

    I agree.

Tszyu has been living in Oz for over 18 years but is still not classed as an Aussie by some here. As you've said, we don't get to choose where we're born or what name we have. It is the choices we make as adults that define us.

Deep deep down do you think Kostya and his wife, dad etc etc view themselves as Russian or Australian ? Do you think that they speak Russian behind closed doors ?

None of us can possibly answer this, but I would think Kostya and his wife both consider themselves Australian or else why bother becoming a citizen.

It doesn't matter if they speak Russian or any other language behind close doors as long as he can communicate in english in the regular Australian world.

Just because you become Australian, it doesn't mean you have to abandon all of your heritage.
