No doubt about it, Joe Calzaghe ought to have been disqualified in his pro debut against Paul Hanlon. He threw a combination when Hanlon was clearly on his knees (2:12 of the video), landing 2 or 3 shots to a downed fighter ala Roy Jones vs Montell Griffin. One of these was also to the back of the head. I won't even mention the holding and pulling downwards on the head of his opponent. Calzaghe's pro career ought to have started 0-1-0, it is impressive he managed 45 wins since then, though they came against tomato cans for the most part. the guy was on the way down blaim the ref the guy was going down if given 5 mins to recover he would have
Maybe your right but are we really arguing a debut there was no controversy at the time i guarantee you that atleast 4 or 5 of your favorite fighters got a gift at some point in their career or had a scenario like this where the ref let them get awawy with anything and it was so early in the career and not even on tV that nobody noticed
who gives a damn about this fight and if he should have lost anyway? it's been and gone and you're lending credit to his record as if that really defines him as a fighter - just like people who carry on about floyd - castillo. plenty of fighters have these moments. it's what builds them into the fighters they became. show me one fighter who never had to face defeat and i'll show you reality TV
Lots of hatred for JC. Guess that happens when you are the best of an era and a definite ATG. Imagine what Joe would have done with no hand problems.
Calzaghe didn't "clearly" lose the Reid fight... Sometimes I wonder how someone with +10000 posts can be so clueless...
there's always a great deal of irony when people post in defense of a fighter who deserves a degree of criticism. its true some people hate him. easy to understand that too all things considered. but raising your hand and saying he's the best of his era and a definite great when you don't really believe it means you're playing the same game 'they' are. don't do that.
