Joe Calzaghe ranks high among all-time super middleweight boxers during his 15 year boxing profession.

Does Joe Calzaghe deserve to be in top 25 super middleweight in boxing history?!

A good handful of superb super middleweights in boxing history, but I say Joe Calzaghe does make it in.

Considering that SUPER middleweight is a relatively young division and hasn't been around for that many decades, I think Calzaghe rates very high within those perameters. In fact, there are some who even rate him as #1 at that weight class, though I don't know exactly how prestigeous that claim really is.

Not so very long ago, and before the division's founding, Calzaghe would have had to settle for either fighting at light heavyweight or middleweight.. Frankly I don't think he'd be rated very high at either.

He is number one, but really his only real competition for that crown is Benn, Eubank, and Collins because it is a thirty year old division. Park, Baek, Lacy, Kessler...great fighters at their best, but would any of these guys make the IBHOF? No Way. Even the legends who stopped in at SMW just did it for a brief time like Jones, Toney, Hearns, or Leonard.

top 25? he held the title for over 10 years and you think he's good enough for the top 25 - now there's a bold statement.

most of the top US champs used the SM as a stop-over to bigger fights so I'd be pretty hard pushed to think of a better SM champ then Calzaghe.

The Super Middleweight has never exactly been a beast of a division. Yes I'd say Calzaghe can go down in history as one of the best in this weightclass, but againt, it's hardly an amazing achievement.

Correction...Jones did more than visit, but if you get into a who did Calzaghe fight at SMW, I suggest you do the same for Jones...outside of Toney, he who? A burned out Vinny Paz? Thulani Malinga maybe? Their level of opposite at SMW is surprising similiar.

This is a hate baiter thread. Calzaghe is #1 at 168 ever. He'd have lost
to a prime RJJ in a close fight, but he accomplished more than any one else at the weight. Joe Calzaghe is why SMW is relevant today. He not only is the best supermiddle ever, but the pioneer of anything that becomes of it in the future. Until somebody comes along and holds all 4
belts, and wins the Ring mag belt outright. Joe has a lock on 168. That's just the facts folks.

SMW division was pretty lousy, as divisions go. To answer the OP - yes, and then some. Prob one of the best in the division ever. As has been mentioned, this doesn't really say much. Here I'm NOT considering those fighters for whom SMW was clearly just a pit-stop ala RJJ.
