i think collins is lucky to be where he is, he got right out the way once the calzaghe fight was announced, at super middle all he done was beat a couple of shot ex champions, its absurd to compare that to frochs wins at supermiddle
also i think gary stretch should be in there somewhere if only for his performance in dead mans shoes
Its felt that Benn left the best of him in the ring the night he won against Gerald McCllellan. Everything after that night was a anti climax to his career. A jaded showing against Malinga - showed this - Malinga just probaly had his number anyway style wise anyway - based on their first fight. By the time he fought Collins you just sensed his heart wasent really in it anymore- this fight was after - his spectular retirement annoucement and proposal announcemnet to his missus in the ring after the Malinga fight. Collins highlight of his career - has got to be bursting Eubanks bubble - but overall Eubank was better fighter and British legend. Collins deserved to slip a place below - Froch - just for the cowardice he showed in ducking Joe Calzaghe - something Froch would probaly not do.
Other than his overrated streak, what else did Joe REALLY do? I'd put Benn and Eubank above him. And to tell you the truth, in 18 months time i'll be putting Carl Froch above him as well. Joe has got the skillset, but his record is borderline shocking!
can't see how JC can be number 1,better boxers above him there,he came along in a pretty easy or easier era, when all the above were way past there best or retired
He won all 168LBs titles - WBO - IBF - WBC - WBA And you reckon thats a shocking record !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Other than his winning streak - of 46 fights where he cleaned up the whole division - you brush that off - and say he done nothing in his career- apart from them 46 fights !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most professionals would consider themselves a proud achievement at winning a southern area title. Joe was a winner - his will to win was very strong - and no fighter was able tp push him to his breaking point.
Who did he face that was so damn good? His best win was Kessler, okay, but who were these other champs? Let's be honest here, he came around when the greats were more-or-less retired, never faced a prime Jones, didn't really do much at all imho.
You could say the same thing about other guys records - like Roy Jones and Chris Eubank - beat a load of average fighters - padded their record out. Joe was very good - very diffcult to beat - and proved this time and time again. If he fought a prime Eubank and Benn and Jones - maybe he would have lost against one of them - but then he might have won too. We can only judge on what they did - and Joe claimed all the tiltes - that achievement - gives him a little edge on benn and eubank.
Eubank, Benn, Collins, Watson.....all better than Froch. And Joe Calzaghe is number 1! The only fighter who can possibly be ahead of Calzaghe is Chris Eubank.
I would rate Joe more if he faced RJJ 5,6,7 years earlier when RJJ still had at least some of his moves......Even if Joe got beat..... Lets have it right a pretty much shot RJJ put Joe on his arse in the first round.
