First of all, I'll say that Joe won, just like I predicted. Hopkins didnt throw enough. Good win for Joe C. He's a bad dude. Now as far as Calzaghe and his punch technique, I can't stand the way this guy doesnt ****ing turn his shots over. I'm sure I'll get flamed by some of the fans overseas for saying it. He's always done it, but it just doesnt get easier to watch. His flurries are crap.
i would like to know why doesnt he throw more straight punches, the few times he did it he was successfull.
I absolutely agree with both of you guys. When he sits down on one and turns it over he's got very good power. Those slaps are just ridiculous though.
It's called having brittle hands, he used to throw harder shots but after breaking his hands a fair few times it is risky.
calzaghe in this fight, like in the kessler fight, is more effective when throwing punches properly. I have no idea why he slaps/flurries so much.
I agree with you. It's frustrating, but I think his hands aren't what they used to be. In his early days he had power to spare.
that's exactly right. He knows how to throw a punch the right way, and when he does, its got some good pop on it. He just doesnt do it often enough. I hate those 7 or 8 punch combos that are all slaps.
I agree 100%. Half of the reason I'm a bit hard on Joe is because I simply don't like his style (it's frustrating to watch for me, personally). Even in his dominant and really impressive win against Lacy; it just didn't do it for me. The Kessler fight was an exception, though. I thought he looked real good there.
Joes hands are brittle and have been shot for years. He doesnt have a choice unless he wants to risk more damage.
He makes so many points on those "slap punches", that I don't see why he shouldn't do it. I think it's kinda cool for him to have developed his own style of fighting, unlike anything else seen.
What is exceptional about his punchign style is he's found a way to punch affectively without rellying upon balance. This is quite the achievment. Calzaghe doesn't need to get set or in position, he doesn't need to adjust his feet and he can be almost as affective "falling in" as he can standing and punching. Hopkins managed to turn their fight into what he wanted it to be, a battle of generalship defined by footwork, but incredibly he still didn't win (didn't have the lungs or the rounds).
