I agree. Calzaghe has fantastic adaptability in the ring, and i think thats why he has been able to prolong his career. I must admit i watch Calzaghe and sometimes he looks to things so wrong yet he is mighty effective, and it bewilders me at times. But as you said i think Calzaghe whilst past his prime can carry on winning against good fighters in Dawson, etc, and its down to his boxing skills which will always be underated and his adaptability in the ring.
Here we go again,i thought we got rid of these wankers after the Kessler fight. No matter who Cal fights people like you will reel off another excuse to why he beat them, just accept it Calzaghe is a living legend and deserves to be ranked up there with the very very best. Yeh this fight hasn't rally proved anything new,but he's already done that way before this fight. Do us all a favour and accept it,stop making yourself look like a ****.:good
To be fair to PacFan, he always stated the RJJ was a soft opponent for Joe and not worth fighting. He had 100% confidence that Joe would win that one - IIRC even by way of KO. So the outcome wasn't really different from what he thought or was saying beforehand anyway - he's not someone making "excuses". PS: I love the chick in your avvie. That's just hawt :hitit I'd be all :smh
Did you even watch the fight you pseudo-fan? that pic was a slip not a knockdown! It harldly proves a point!
For me, the pre-fight analysis hinged on 2 seperate factors going into the fight: 1) RJJ has the power to KD an oft off-balance JC. He also has the feint to accomplish this since Calz is most vulnerable to the short quick right he doesn't see coming. Most likely early in the fight. This content is protected . KD in Rd 1. Joe stunned but not hurt. 2) RJJ will not have the stamina to remain competitive for 12 Rds, and will gas. Tiring as the fight progresses, Joe will take over. This content is protected . As the fight went past the 3rd round it was clear that Jones legs were rubbery, and quite possibly wouldn't last the distance. I was absolutely opposed to the idea that JC could KO him before the fight - however this looked increasingly likely as the fight wore on. After Rd 5 Calzaghe even began to showboat, taunting Jones by dropping his hands in low guard and inviting Jones to punch him. Jones resisted, terrified of being KO'd. I was certain of the first factor coming into play - I really believed Jones would KD JC - possibly even KO'ing him if he got in a sufficient dig. I was more certain Jones would KO JC than Joe KO RJJ - which I saw as next to never happening. It was the 2nd of these factors - Jones stamina - that had me puzzled. Unlike other non-joking pundits I thought it was possible for him to turn back the clock; despite significant evidence to the contrary. I was wrong. Ultimately I don't think this should have a huge impact on Joe's legacy. Unlike the Hopkins fight, where Joe's pace had a significant bearing on Hopkins stamina, in this fight RJJ was simply shot. I think any ideas to the contrary were just wishful thinking. He was gone after Rd 3... and really has never looked all that amazing off the back of his last 6 performances. For Joe, it's an excellent payday, and a great set of names to take with him to the boxing grave. Congratulations Joe Calzaghe.
You lost all respect for me? Well I never had any for you fro the first lamentable post of yours I read, so now we're on the same page. I said from the first minute this fight was announced that it was a sham and that Calzaghe would stroll it. I was right on both counts. Good night.
See this is a perfect example of the rampant idiocy which ****s this whole forum up. Why would being born several hundred miles away from someone make me automatically and blindly support them?? Why? I don't understand the reasoning behind this ancient mentality. I am a boxing fan, I love boxing, I'm not a Britain fan. My favourite fighters are from Panama, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Mexico and the USA. I base my boxing decisions on boxing, nothing else. You really are a neanderthal.
Cheers Xavier, at least someone has been paying attention unlike all these unknown random British fanboys arseholes who only come on to acclaim Calzaghe when he fights and know **** all about this forum.
and calzaghe won. you deal with. skirt wearing telegraph pole thrower. go dance round some swords ***.:rofl :rofl
You are wrong about the chin, not only that but your account is factually incorrect. Jones didn't drop him with a "shot". He dropped him with a forearm right on the chin. That isn't a legal shot. Not only that but he went right back on the offensive. Calzaghe has a great chin and more importantly some of the best powers of recovery ever seen.
