I stated Calzaghe does not have an "iron" chin, and I believe that to be correct.

And to say Calzaghe has some of the best powers of recovery ever seen is utterly ridiculous, I would have expected better from you. He has been knocked down by Kabary Salem and Byron Mitchell. Does it take the some of the best powers of recovery ever seen to ward off those two ATGs? No. He proved to have good powers of recovery against decent fighters, you cannot say he has some of the best powers of recovery ever seen unless he had proved this under intense pressure from fighters we know to be top class fighters and finishers. Due to the extreme paucity of such fighters on Calzaghe's resume, we cannot make this statement about him. Hopkins and Jones applied literally zero pressure to him after their knockdowns, they did not go for a stoppage at all, so his powers of recovery were not even tested in those instances.

    You're going well OTT here.

Yeah, tired old national stereotypes really are the cutting edge of humour in 2008 mate. Well done. :patsch

They didn't try and finish because they couldn't. That is because Calzaghe is on the offensive unlike other fighters, he fires back instead of covering up and inviting pressure. The powers of recovery and ring generalship are excellent.

Who cares if its "iron" or not? How do you know if its iron or "just" great? Calzaghe is always leaning, always throwing from odd angles and always on the offensive. It's sort of like if I'm going to run on ice instead of walking, I'm more likely to fall over. Calzaghe is always somebody that runs. It's style and balance that is questionable, not chin. I mean how does falling over come into consideration for a chin, its how badly hurt.

If you have a great chin and great recovery nobody is knocking your ass out.

After both knockdowns Joe went after Hopkins and Jones giving them little time to capitalise.
To come back from a 1st round knockdown in both fights on two of the biggest boxing stages in the world is impressive.

I rate that win over jones better than Pacs over Diaz (who was game but ultimately leagues below pac.)
Calzaghe is now my #1 p4p. This will be clear to all the doubters once oscar takes care of pac handily.

You said he has some of the greatest powers of recovery ever seen. I'm sorry but I just think that is a ludicrous statement. How does recovering from being sat on your arse by Salem and Mitchell justify that statement? How does recovering from KD's by Hopkins and Jones (neither of whom have stopped anyone in years) when they didn't even go for a stoppage justify that statement? Some of the greatest powers of recovery ever seen? Ever? Seriously? I think you need to calm down and have a think.

Yet more wonderful logic. Calzaghe selects the easiest opponent he could get away with facing at this stage in his career, the very easiest guy available, and obviously wins easily. Pacquiao jumps over 2 weight divisions to try and make history, taking on an opponent far more difficult than he needs to. Yet it's Calzaghe who is rewarded and Pacquiao punished. I hope you all get what you want and from now on boxers carefully handpick each opponent, win mismatches, and we never get anyone taking 50-50 (or in Pac's case even poorer odds) risky dangerous match-ups. It appears that this attitude now gets you to the top in boxing. Great days.

At the end of it, he wasn't even hurt badly by either. If he was really shaken it would be evident in his legs. And there isn't really a connection between a knockdown and a chin as you seem to think. I don't see how thats difficult for an astute observer like you to realize.

Another thing with chins is how much you actually get hit. Calzaghe gets hit a fair bit compared to other elites.

Calzaghe's chin is granite, great, whatever adjective we want to use.

    You're sooooo boring.

It must hurt having to constantly self-justify every time Calzaghe wins, proving time after time that he's the business. It's going to get even worse for you after De La Hya spanks your girlfriend.

You didn't really address the post you are responding to at all TFFP. He has not proved to have some of the greatest powers of recovery ever seen in a boxing ring, that is just absurd.

His chin is good, it has not proven to be granite, great, iron, or anything of the sort.

He proved that he could beat a shot fighter, just as I said he would from day one. Yawn. Of course Oscar will beat Pac, he dwarves him. That takes nothing away from Pacquiao. Could Joe Calzaghe have stepped up to cruiser and beat David Haye after Haye bitchslapped Enzo Mac? Of course not. That doesn't take anything away from how good he is at lhw.
