http://www.sundaymirror.co.uk/sport...rnard-hopkins-is-scared-of-me-98487-20307682/ Joe Calzaghe is convinced American legend Bernard Hopkins is having second thoughts about their multi-million-pound showdown. Last December in Las Vegas Hopkins confronted Calzaghe and vowed he'd "never lose to a white boy", but now the Welshman doubts Hopkins is that confident. "We are due to meet face-to-face for a press conference but he has continually put obstacles in the way," said Calzaghe. "I was ready to fly to America but it kept getting put back. "He is all mouth - and I could see that in his eyes when he started bragging last year." Advertisement The planned five-city tour will now take place in 10 days' time but Hopkins will be in London on Thursday for what promises to be a fiery head-to-head confrontation. "Calzaghe is a nice guy and he's been a good champion but he's crazy if he thinks I'm avoiding him," said Hopkins (right). "I've been in bigger fights and faced more hostile crowds. "I told Calzaghe last year I would fight him anywhere and I mean that. Meeting him face-to-face is child's play to me." In 2001 Hopkins ripped down a Puerto Rican flag and stamped on it in front of 20,000 Puerto Ricans in the build-up to his fight with Felix Trinidad. "What I did in Puerto Rico and what I said to Joe are all part of boxing," added Hopkins, who will also be the co-promoter when the pair meet in Las Vegas. "If Calzaghe's getting jumpy about what I said to him, he'll lose his mind by the time I'm finished with him." However, Calzaghe watched closely in December when Ricky Hatton met Floyd Mayweather in a fight that clearly rattled the British favourite. "Hopkins is a good talker and I've seen what can happen if you let the top Americans wind you up - it will not happen with me," insisted Calzaghe. "He's an old man and I will end his long career."
The obstacles in terms of press conferences and such like are just designed to unsettle Joe. Can't see Calzaghe getting flustered like Hatton, seems a lot cooler.
Hold on a second... this is a British tabloid sensationalizing his words. Please show me the quote where Joe says that Hopkins is scared of meeting him. JC basically acknowledges that Hopkins is trying to wind him up and doesn't say anything about the conferences. Typical British irresponsible ****ing press.
If you go to the site where boxing is always on the scene you will see the full article, featuring BHOP's response which the first poster left out.
Hopkins has been to jail countless times and grew up on the mean streets of Phili. Not to mention being stabbed. Someone please tell me why the hell Hopkins would be afraid of Calzaghe?
Thats the problem with the tabloids. They never show any interest in boxng & when they do they get it wrong. Anyway I promised no more negativity from me. The fight will happen & I cant wait.
Whats that got to do with anything ? Who cares if he has been to jail and shafted by all the top prison dogs ? He is scared becasue he is a **** boxer and highly over-rated. He is boring to watch and talks **** as well.
I cant believe I used to let you ignorant fools get to me. Please carry on, you're providing entertainment for the knowledgable masses. If you could throw a few more swear words in that would be fantastic. :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
I'm no fan of Hopkins but to call him over-rated is beyond a joke. He's a future hall of famer P4P great. His powers may be a little faded and he's going to get his ass handed to him by Joe but shown the man a little respect.
